Job Title: Engineering Manager - 4 – 7L Platform Salary: £80,100 + Dependent Upon Experience Location: Peterborough, UK Benefits: 25 days annual leave, Up to 31% Bonus Car Allowance Contributory pension scheme - Caterpillar will double the employee's contribution Up to 10% Contributory share scheme - Caterpillar will match 50% of the employee's contribution. About IPSD Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary In this role you are accountable for all engineering aspects of the product lifecycle on our 4 - 7L Evolution engines. You are the link between Product Management and the engineering organisation - leading a large indirect engineering team to deliver and maintain class leading engines and power systems across a range of market segments. Meeting the challenges of today and preparing for the opportunities of the future. Additional Info Regular travel is not a required for this role, but it is expected you will support the global development team and manufacturing base as well as engage with key suppliers and customers when needed. Total <10% What You Will Do Lead a large highly skilled global product development team Align the Product Strategy and Technology Strategy for current 4-7L Higher Regulated derived engines to ensure world class products are available in the right markets at the right time to support our global customers and drive profitable growth Define and champion the Research & Development and Engineering Maintenance programs and budgetary forecasts to support the strategy Deliver the Technical and engineering Product Objectives on New Product Introduction programs to meet or exceed challenging Time / Cost / Quality / Performance goals Maintain current products driving cost reduction, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance, minimising warranty to support platform profitability What You Have Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. Level Expert: Product Design and Development: Proven experience in the design and development of combustion engines or similar technologies. Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology from concept through to production. Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Expertise in the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyse situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment under time pressure. Customer/Market Focus: Understanding of the global powertrain market and trends (incl. Net Zero opportunities) and the ability to convert knowledge in to strategic technology plans. Collaborating Globally: Knowledge of effective collaboration techniques and ability to build networks with people from different countries and cultures, think and work with them to bring positive impact and flourishing business results. Decision Making and Critical Thinking : Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment. Level Extensive Experience: Differentiates assumptions, perspectives, and historical frameworks. Evaluates past decisions for insights to improve decision-making process. Assesses and validates decision options and points and predicts their potential impact. Advises others in analyzing and synthesizing relevant data and assessing alternatives. Uses effective decision-making approaches such as consultative, command, or consensus. Ensures that assumptions and received wisdom are objectively analyzed in decisions. Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment. Level Expert: Consults and coaches others on how to troubleshoot non-recurring and performance-related problems. Establishes best practices for distinguishing mechanical, electronic or systems problems. Leads in discussing alternative troubleshooting approaches and their applicability to types of problems. Oversees the organization and coordination of teams of in-house and vendor experts to resolve major problems. Develops policies and procedures to monitor problem logs, resolutions and lessons learned. Directs the resolution of complex, multi-component failures. Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production. Level Expert: Leads in designing and implementing new production and distribution methods. Advocates the development of new technologies and tools for product design and development. Leads cross-functional teams assembled for the purpose of product design and development. Develops organizational best practices for the management of product design and development. Establishes new product development strategies and processes for the organization. Predicts future trends of product design and development.
