JOB DESCRIPTION
Local subcontractor has an exceptional opportunity for a full-time controller to work with an energetic team in a growing company operation in multiple states. This is a family-owned business. The company is looking for a talented hands-on construction accountant with great organization and leadership skills.
Essential elements of this position are the ability to lead a team, a full understanding of construction accounting preferably with Sage software experience, the ability to communicate effectively with the owner, and a strong work ethic. Must be willing to commit the time and effort to meet all standards of excellence and deadlines.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Timely production of quality monthly financial statements for multiple companies in Sage and Quickbooks. Financial statements must be accompanied with supporting account reconciliations and will be reviewed regularly by an outside CPA.
- Responsible for cash flow management, including weekly cash flow projections and related meetings with the owner.
- Competency in setting up new companies in Sage and Quickbooks.
- Ability to work extra hours when needed to meet deadlines and accomplish goals.
- Supervise and develop the capabilities of accounting and administrative personnel.
- Manage human resources including hiring, evaluations, authorization of vacation, management of sick time, etc.
- Supervise the processing of payroll. Assure its accuracy, reconciliation with the financial statements, timeliness, knowledge and compliance with all federal and multiple state regulatory requirements.
- Find efficiencies, including improvements in time reporting for direct payroll costs and other key areas that need attention.
- Establish and maintain effective business relationships with industry business partners: auditors, banking, government regulators, insurance, legal counsel, suppliers, etc.
- Ensure that all procedures are in written.
- Work with outside accounting firms to provide accurate and timely reports for external financial reporting and taxes.
- Ensure that internal controls are in place.
- Ownership has 23 companies - be able to handle companies
STRATEGIC INITIATIVES
- Participate in the formation of company financial plans and projections.
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures.
- Assist management by providing and advising on management information reports.
- Work closely with the outside CPA to support tax and financial planning.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong management and leadership skills. Experience in supervision required.
- Ability to prioritize and to effectively delegate.
- Productive, efficient, reliable, and trustworthy.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or finance .
- Excellent communication skills both in written and oral communication.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- 3+ years of progressive construction industry experience.
- Experience with Sage construction software and Quickbooks accounting software.
- Full understanding of payroll laws.
- Advanced excel skills.
Compensation is based on experience.
