AMI Technical Support Specialist (Water Utilities)
- Travel: Around Dallas Fort Worth area
- Location: Need to Live in Fort Worth or immediate adjacent city
This role is for a technical specialist to support a Sensus Automated Meter Infrastructure (AMI)
licensed radio network using base stations who can effectively perform both onsite and remote
troubleshooting as well as support and resolve technical issues for a large utility while meeting
specified objectives. The primary objective is to keep satisfied customers in the water utility
space.
Responsibilities
This position will perform technical support for meters/radios/software/RF hardware (base
station/collector) and on-site/phone technical support for a set of large water utilities. Assist
customer with troubleshooting of meter communications to the meter reading AMI/IT
infrastructure. Work with and build Automated Meter Infrastructure (AMI) licensed radio
network using base stations and other infrastructure to collect data to support the Smart Utility
initiatives that our customer has. Must ensure delivery of products and services in adherence
with customer requirements. Coordinate with customers' resources to ensure project results
conform to quality, time and budgetary stipulations. Maintain an appropriate relationship with
customers and ensure that customers are satisfied with the services provided.
Primary Functions
- Support / Repair / Replace RF base station parts on the data collector / base stations
- Perform onsite base station/collector health check
- Work with Utility to continuously evaluate AMI Network coverage meets Utility'sgrowth
- Provide on-site and remote training for Sensus products and tools (we will train if the candidate has the correct other qualification)
- Provide local technical software, tools and troubleshooting support for Utility for AMI Tools and techniques
- Keep up on AMI software and tools and communicate to customer
- Assist the Utility with monitoring overall read rate percentage
- Troubleshooting issues impacting overall read rate percentage
- Work with Aqua-Metric and Manufacturer support teams as needed to troubleshoot and resolve root cause
- Monitor base stations are up and troubleshoot issues impacting Base Station uptime/performance
- Managing Software Updates and Upgrades for multiple software vendors, assessing impacts to integration and to the business
Support for Utility's eter Services Operations
Provide ongoing subject matter expertise (onsite as needed) related to Utility's effort to monitor
meter operations and troubleshoot issues related to endpoints/radio:
- Verify meter installation state and troubleshoot issues
- Verify meter configuration and troubleshoot issues
- Identify and troubleshoot meters with communication issues
- Identify and troubleshoot meters with alerts
- Identify and troubleshoot data synchronization issues caused by delays in updating meter installation/exchanges/removal service order
- With coordination of Utility's Meter Services, perform over the air broadcast messages
- Create and maintain Sensus endpoint configuration profiles
Provide Periodic Training
- Provide on-site subject matter expertise
- Work with Utility personnel to implement best practices for installation and operation of AMI System and end points
- Work with Utility personnel to interpret AMI data
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting integration/synchronization issues of the AMI Software to Utility's billing system, web portal, GIS, and other systems touched by the AMI data.
- Metering related training for software and tools
Qualifications: Mandatory
- Computer environments and skills - Windows, Linux, Networking, VPN
- Software tools - Microsoft Office Suite, networking tools
- Valid Drivers License
- Great driving record (is a requirement to be considered)
- Must be self-motivated
- Be able to communicate well with customers and provide great service
Secondary (not mandatory but )
- Bachelors degree (big plus)
- Prior utility industry experience (big plus)
- RF Engineering experience (eg. Cellular, Point to Point Radios)
- Experience with Radio Spectrum Analyzer / Cable Analyzer
- Shell Scripting on Linux
- Experience with SCADA systems
- Prior software integration project experience
