Asset Management Engineer (London/Glasgow based)

Summary: 

We are looking to recruit a full-time Asset management engineer to join our central asset management function.  As a member of the asset management team, the individual needs to be technically capable, commercially aware, ambitious and driven.  They will seek to contribute to the fast growth and success of the company, whilst ensuring that the highest levels of SHEQ and asset performance are maintained.  The role offers the opportunity for an engineer with the right capabilities to develop and widen their experience through operational and commercial management of significant electrical power assets at the centre of the UK’s decarbonisation programme. The principal focus of the role will be to provide Asset management services for a new Blackhillock grid stability project in Aberdeenshire which is moving to full operation in Q2 2025 and to support the exiting Asset Management team and its portfolio of 11 offshore transmission projects (OFTO’s) throughout the UK.

Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

 

Asset Management 

  • Act as the stakeholder nominated Asset manager for the Blackhillock reserve power synchronous compensator site.(nominally office based but working with site based personnel) 
  • Ensuring overall Health, Safety & Environmental compliance is maintained across all site activities. 
  • Implementing site operational procedures and processes to improve efficiency and value adding operations. 
  • Co-ordination of maintenance policies and planning with respect to all assets under management.- Onshore and Offshore (above and below water) 
  • Development and implementation of value adding process to improve overall asset stewardship in line with contracted expectations including end of life strategies, life extension or decommissioning planning. 
  • Scoping of improvement or repair activities and contractor management through to solution implementation.  
  • Management of projects, including the specification, technical input to the procurement process and supervision / management of contractors 
  • Develop and maintain management tools and systems to assist the operations team perform their function. (Safety Culture, CMMS system, Spares management) 
  • Budget management and coordination with the commercial team to ensure effective financial management of all operational activities.  
  • Oversee the maintenance of risk management tools and process to help drive effective decision making. 
  • Formulating asset management strategies that maximize asset availability 
  • Assist with commercial and engineering aspects of new project bidding and site handovers. 
  • Commercial engagement with key contractors and their service delivery. 
  • Stakeholder management and reporting. (internal and external) 
  • Steady state management of OMA and MSA agreements for site operation. 
  • OFTO overarching spares management (inc cables) 
  • Maintenance and update of ISO management level documentation for the portfolio. 
  • Contribution to maintaining ISO9001 / ISO45000 and ISO55000 accreditation  
  • Occasional Onshore and Offshore site attendance for familiarisation, work scope supervision or audit requirements. 
  • Contribution to Cyber security planning and resilience across the portfolio.

Location and travel: 

  • Be located within easy access of our Central London, Inverness or Glasgow Offices 
  • Be able to travel to operational sites as and when required. 

 

Education, Work Experience & Qualifications: 

  • Qualified in an electrical or mechanical discipline to degree or HND level although applicants with extensive and relevant value adding experience will be considered. 
  • 3 years+ relevant industry experience in a plant control or engineering co ordination function. 
  • Have experience working with high voltage electrical system components and associated plant, equipment and infrastructure including any rotating plant. Offshore wind experience is an advantage but not essential. Maintenance or commercial management system experience is also an advantage. 
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety policy and legislation, and electrical safety rules 
  • Fault response / repair 
  • Possession, or capability to achieve the GWO requirements for access to offshore substations. (training will be provided) 
  • Experience of project management / development  
  • Detailed asset specific knowledge: e.g. transformers, cables, switchgear, light current (protection and SCADA), offshore structures 
  • Experience of submarine cable surveys, reburial and repair preparedness 
  • IOSH or other relevant safety qualifications 
  • Full UK driving licence
