Assistant Lead, MBA Structure & Materials Engineer

Power Solutions & Vestas Quality > Aerodynamic & Mechanical > Lubrication & MBA The Powertrain Module in Vestas Power Solutions is responsible for developing the complete Vestas powertrain for both onshore and offshore wind turbines. The module consists of 3 submodules, Lubrication & MBA (Main Bearing Arrangement), Gearbox, and Generator. The Lubrication & MBA submodule is responsible and accountable for the design solutions of (i) the powertrain lubrication system, (ii) the main bearings and (iii) the structural components. The Lubrication & MBA submodule team is located in four hubs, Aarhus in Denmark, Porto in Portugal, Dortmund in Germany and Chennai, India. This position is for the Lubrication & MBA submodule group and more specifically for the structural design of the Main Bearing Arrangement in Porto. You will contribute to developing an ever-growing and high-paced team in a global environment. Responsibilities Identify - Design - Optimize - Validate Design the load carrying components included bolts and welded connections Evaluate material properties and select appropriate materials for structural components Perform material analysis to assess if requirements are met Cost-Optimize the structure using dedicated tools and following the Vestas development process Way to Market Plan together with the Project Manager the technical activities following the Vestas stage gate model. Deliver the complete verification and validation documentation of the MBA structure including certification Define and participate to testing campaigns Propel VA/VE activities to optimize owned components to product cost to required performances Contribute to the Technology Roadmap to assure the submodule growth in line with market development Monitor and contribute to improve the fleet performance of the MBA structure over the value chain Work closely with suppliers enabling Design for Manufacturing Qualifications Master's degree in Structural or Materials Engineering You have industry experience within design (R&D) of large casting and bearing arrangement Comprehensive understanding of materials science and mechanical behavior Specific work experience within the wind industry is beneficial but not required Enthusiastic about practical work on tests and verification as well as theoretical knowledge Fluency in English Good communication skills Competencies Load analysis and application Calculation of casted structures (analytic and FEA) Extreme and fatigue analysis Material analysis and Statistics Design for manufacturing Bolted and welded joints Contact settings System engineering Quality development tools (requirements, DFMEA, verification, validation) Project management What we offer We offer an exciting job in a creative and international environment.
