Assistant Port Engineer

Summary: Under the direction of Port Engineer, this position is responsible for performing regular scheduled maintenance duties on all day tour vessels including assisting Captains with oil changes; for assisting Port Engineer with mechanical repairs; and for keeping all parts, filters, and equipment areas on dock stocked, organized and neat.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Must possess current Drivers’ license and have record with no recent violations.
  • Applicant should be able to pick up at least 50 pounds in line of duties.
  • Be comfortable working around diesel engines.
  • Posses some experience with mechanic’s tools.
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to work unsupervised.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts, some weekends and some holidays.
  • Must be drug free (pre-employment screening and enrollment in random drug testing program is Coast Guard required).
  • Must be able to work from mid April to the end of September with little or no interruption.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform engine oil changes on a fleet of four plus large marine diesel engines of varying makes and ages.
  • Work safely in a fast-paced environment.
  • Assist in monitoring of maintenance inventory (i.e. lube oil, filters, tools, etc.).
  • Communicate problems to Port Engineer.
  • Keep dock and shop areas clean, safe and free from hazards to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Six months’ experience in a similar position.
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years’ experience in a similar position with progressive responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with US Coast Guard regulations
  • Proficient with computers, technology and the Microsoft Suite
  • TIG, MIG, sheild and/or flux core welding experience.

Work Environment:

Ability to work flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays. Must be comfortable working in small, enclosed, dusty, noisy and sometimes hot or cold environments. Willingness to work very late, or very early

Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Ability to walk on uneven deck surfaces crossing from vessel to vessel. Able to bend, twist and squat regularly throughout the day.
