JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) at the Veteran’s Administration (VA) Outpatient Clinic in Viera, FL, oversees daily janitorial and aseptic operations, ensuring contract compliance and high-quality service. Reporting to the Project Manager (PM), the APM supports customer communication, identifies challenges, and implements solutions to enhance patient safety and operational efficiency. The APM supervises employees, ensuring compliance with VA, HAMS, OSHA, and Joint Commission standards while maintaining high-quality service levels. This role balances hands-on operational tasks with leadership responsibilities, actively participating in Quality Assurance inspections, KPI tracking, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The APM manages day-to-day operations with decision-making authority while following PM directives and communicating ideas for operational enhancements. Regular customer engagement and effective communication with the PM on employee management, operational challenges, and quality standards are essential. Strong leadership, team supervision, and problem-solving skills, along with knowledge of relevant compliance standards, are crucial for success in this role.

- Under the direction of the PM, oversee, schedule and supervise daily housekeeping activities to ensure contract requirements are met.
- Understand, perform, and train employees on duties as it relates to the contract.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of the performance work statement (PWS) and adhere to industry standards.
- Perform inspections and implement corrective actions to maintain quality assurance compliance standards.
- Actively utilize Otuvy (Software for Facility Management) for QA inspections, task assignment, task validation, reporting ensuring all quality standards are consistently met.
- Monitor labor and supply budgets, reporting anomalies to the PM for corrective action.
- Monitor and improve housekeeping processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with Project Manager, employees and VA officials to address any quality-related concerns and implement corrective action as necessary.
- Participate in daily communication with personnel to ascertain problems/concerns, reach decisions regarding appropriate solutions, and to maintain a high level of satisfaction in terms of quality service.
- Provide leadership and guidance to encourage personnel to succeed.
- Identify and provide training in the safe and productive use and maintenance of equipment, utilization of supplies, and the basic skills needed to meet contract requirements
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of performance work statement (contract) and adherence to customer standards.
- This is an onsite leadership position, in support of direct labor functions. Hands-on assistance will be expected and balanced with operational supervision and employee development.
- Serve as the PM Alternate in the absence of the Project Manager.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- Lead, mentor and develop employees to maintain a productive and compliant work environment.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide continuous feedback and coaching.
- Ensure employees receive adequate training in equipment usage, safety procedures and quality standards.
- Make employment recommendations including hiring, promotions, terminations and disciplinary actions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma
- Prior custodial management experience
- Must have the ability to obtain the IEHA CESE or CHESP certification within 180 days of employment
- Must be able to pass a background screening for access to the work areas
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and occasional weekends.
- Must have received the COVID-19 vaccine in full by the date of hire to be considered for employment or would be required to wear a mask. Employees are required to receive the Flu vaccine or wear a mask during the Flu season (November-April).
- Must be able to understand, speak, read, and write English .
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates Degree in Business or related field
- Certifications such as IEHA CESE or CHESP are highly
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions in order to perform this job successfully.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and QA tracking software (such as Otuvy).
- Ability to work autonomously while maintaining effective communication with the Project Manager.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor and develop teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and decision-making abilities, with a proactive approach to operational challenges.
- Effective interpersonal skills. Able to get along with diverse personalities and abilities; is tactful, professional and customer service oriented.
- Good administrative skills; comfortable performing multiple tasks concurrently.
TRAVEL:
No travel is expected for this position.
WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE (IF APPLICABLE):
Must be authorized to access and work on government installations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requirements will vary depending on the assigned tasks. This position does require the following: repetitive lifting, push/pull, carrying, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling and prolonged standing. Will involve lifting/moving up to 40 pounds. These requirements can be done with or without reasonable accommodation.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Working conditions are predominantly indoors but may involve working outdoors with some exposure to heat and inclement weather.
- Will need to use any personal protective equipment (PPE) as designated, properly and consistently.
- Involves exposure to hazardous materials (i.e., cleaning solutions and bio-waste hazards).
- Required inoculations and training provided by the company.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Some tasks require manual dexterity, in addition to visual and hearing acuity.

Salary: Starting at $45,000
