Job Title: Assistant Quantity Surveyor\n\nLocation: Manchester\n\nAbout the Role:\n We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Quantity Surveyor from a house building or main contracting background to support the commercial and financial management of construction projects. This role is ideal for someone looking to develop their career in quantity surveying, gaining hands-on experience while working alongside experienced professionals.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nAssist in the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and financial reports.\nSupport the procurement process, including obtaining and reviewing subcontractor and supplier quotations.\nAssist in contract administration and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.\nHelp with the assessment of project variations, change orders, and interim valuations.\nMonitor project costs and provide regular financial updates to senior team members.\nAssist in managing payments, invoices, and financial documentation.\nWork closely with project managers, site teams, and suppliers to ensure smooth project delivery.\nParticipate in risk assessments and help identify cost-saving opportunities.\nGain experience with standard construction contracts such as JCT and NEC.Requirements:\n\nA degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field (or currently working towards one).\nSome experience in a similar role or a strong desire to build a career in quantity surveying.\nKnowledge of construction costs, procurement, and contract administration.\nStrong numerical and analytical skills.\nProficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software.\nExcellent communication and organizational skills.\nAbility to work as part of a team and take initiative when needed. \n\nApply: If you're interested in this opportunity, then please get in touch today with our Commercial Specialist Mark Harris, or apply with your CV.\n\nBuilding Careers UK specialises in Construction and Property recruitment and serves as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and an employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
