The rate at which were seeing large-scale, unforeseen events such as floods and wildfires, is becoming more frequent. We are here to protect our natural environment and water resources, while powering our world for future generations.Role Accountabilities Provide Technical leadership for substation Physical designs within the multi-discipline engineering team in the Electrical Transmission and Distribution market with key clients being Transmission Owners, Distribution Network Operators, Onshore and Offshore Windfarms and large industrial clients Being a senior technical authority on Main Plant engineering within the wider company Be a lead technical role on substation Physical design project deliverables, ranging from 12.47kV up to kV (with a particular emphasis on kV voltages and above), including undertaking the role of Lead Engineer on project teams, as required and when appropriate. Produce detailed substation Physical design packages, compliant with the required client and national technical standards. Prepare calculations and technical/equipment specification documentation. Execute complex assignments requiring the use of advanced techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment, and/or technological methods. Undertake consultancy role on FEED stage projects, including production of technical reports and presentations. Maintain compliance to CDM Regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of substation and electrical system design. Provide technical leadership of a team of specialist electrical system substation Physical engineers in transmission and distribution substations from 12.47kV through to kV in the US and as required when supporting international Arcadis projects. Coordinate and manage the delivery of protection and control designs in line with Client expectations Responsible for technical delivery of staff assignments to clients and large-size projects. Qualifications & Experience Minimum of 15 years of substation Physical design experience in the electricity transmission & distribution sector, with at least 7 of those years being on US transmission system-related projects. Knowledge of engineering design management best practices with the ability to implement this knowledge Understanding of the requirements of relevant US Health & Safety legislation relating to design and construction work in the electricity supply industry. Thorough understanding of current Construction (Design & Management) Regulations. Experience working in a lead substation design role in the US. Good working knowledge of policies and procedures. Thorough knowledge and experience applying IEEE, NEC, ANSI NFPA, OSHA and Client Technical Specification, Technical Guidance Notes, and Design Handbooks relating to substation Physical design in the US. Knowledge of applying CAD technology/software to substation design Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Strong persuasion and negotiation skills with clients and employees. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders across clients, industry, government and public. Able to manage tasks on multiple projects and conflicting deadlines. Able to work autonomously and/or as part of a project team. Proactive in building knowledge and understanding of the electricity transmission and distribution industry. Capability to coach, develop and record CPD and encourage others in the team to do so Engaged in the engineering community and how we can drive success for our clients. Ability to develop innovative and practical solutions to a range of problems, and an understanding of how one issue may be part of a much larger solution. Ability to make an effective and collaborative contribution to the team through sharing knowledge, promoting ideas, and valuing the contribution of all team members Promote continuous improvement in "Safe by Design"
