Associate Technical Director - Rail Signalling

You will lead and manage a collection of teams. Your expertise in rail signaling systems, especially Relay Interlocking, Processor-Based Interlockings, Train Detection and Protection systems, and signaling in AC traction areas, will be critical to delivering complex design projects. Recognized as a key influencer, you actively contribute to the strategic direction and growth of GECs. You should have substantial experience in designs for complex projects, signalling design for UK Railways, stage working, Risk Assessments, managing projects and team, Interfacing with other disciplines, client, and BA. Ability to provide solution for complex issues or unusual situations. You will be involved in bid support and reviewing the estimates produced by pursuit team. You will train, guide & mentor the junior designers & team membersRole accountabilities;Technical Leadership: Lead the review of complex design deliverables, including signaling plans, control tables, headway and braking calculations, bonding plans, and detailed designs. Ensure design teams develop optimal solutions that meet project requirements, maintaining high standards of quality and innovation. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers and team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development. Oversee the technical review process for all projects within your teams, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to industry standards. Project & People Management: Take ultimate responsibility for the financial and quality performance of projects within your discipline, creating a culture of ownership and accountability. Manage complex design projects independently, from feasibility through detailed design to construction, ensuring timely and successful delivery. Provide unbiased and fair input for salary decisions and manage the performance and development of your team members. Lead resource planning and delivery strategy within tender teams, ensuring successful bids and alignment with project goals. Proactively coordinate workload with the BA, identifying future recruitment needs and ensuring your team is equipped to meet evolving demands. Collaboration & Innovation: Engage with Business Area Leaders to create visibility for your team, exploring opportunities to leverage their skills and expertise. Build strong relationships with senior colleagues across BAs to identify business opportunities and ensure Arcadis commercial objectives are met or exceeded. Drive innovation within your team by staying informed on sustainable development, standardization, automation, and future trends and technologies. Organize your teams to adopt new technologies and methodologies, ensuring your team's skills remain relevant and competitive. Health & Safety(H&S): Lead the promotion of Arcadis' H&S culture within your discipline, ensuring safety and wellbeing principles are integrated into all aspects of project delivery. Demonstrate professional standards, recognizing responsibilities to society, the profession, and the environment, and acting ethically in all decision-making. Principal Duties: Lead the development and execution of detailed designs, ensuring alignment with client expectations and project requirements. Evaluate and enhance the technical competence of your team, providing training, mentoring, and professional development opportunities. Ensure your team is up-to-date with the latest design and modeling software, including CAD, MicroStation, BIM, Bluebeam, and others. Develop and implement training plans that address both current and future needs, ensuring the continuous improvement of your team. Promote the adoption of future trends and technologies, driving innovation and efficiency in project delivery Qualifications & Experience: Diploma/B.Tech in Electrical, Electronics, Communications, or Computer Engineering. Minimum 15 years of experience in rail signaling design, with a track record of leading and managing complex projects independently. Strong expertise in various signaling systems, particularly in Relay Interlocking, Processor-Based Interlockings, and Train Detection and Protection systems. Must have a thorough understanding of the certification processes for various competencies, such as IRSE (Institution of Railway Signal Engineers) and ARTC (Australian Rail Track Corporation), that are required for signaling designers. Must have professional certifications related to rail signaling designs (e.g., IRSE license) Must have detailed knowledge on Scheme and details designs approval process Strong knowledge of design processes, document security, and management using electronic document management systems like SharePoint, ProjectWise, Team Binder, and BIM. Proven involvement in major projects and complex design work, with evidence of risk assessments, technical analysis, and case studies. Expertise in industry-relevant design tools and a commitment to continuous professional development. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels.
