Job Title: Automated X-ray Inspection (AXI) Engineer
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled AXI Engineer to operate, maintain, and optimize Viscom Automated X-ray Inspection (AXI) systems for quality control in electronics manufacturing. The ideal candidate will work closely with manufacturing, quality, R&D, and maintenance teams to ensure defect-free production of PCBs, BGAs, and other electronic assemblies. This role requires expertise in Viscom AXI technology, SMT processes, defect analysis, and AI-based inspection programming.
Key Responsibilities:
1. AXI System Operation & Maintenance
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain Viscom AXI systems for inline and offline inspection.
• Develop and optimize Viscom AXI inspection programs to enhance defect detection and reduce false calls.
• Troubleshoot Viscom AXI system issues, ensuring minimal downtime and coordinating with Viscom technical support when necessary.
• Perform preventive maintenance and calibration to maintain system accuracy and reliability.
2. Defect Detection & AI-Based Inspection Programming
• Analyze X-ray images from Viscom systems to detect soldering defects, voids, misalignment, and hidden joint failures.
• Develop and program AI-based judgment algorithms within the Viscom AXI system to improve defect classification and reduce human intervention.
• Train and fine-tune machine learning models for automated defect detection and continuous improvement.
• Work with software engineers and AI specialists to integrate AI-powered inspection into production workflows.
3. Cross-Department Collaboration
• Work closely with Quality Engineers to improve defect detection accuracy and implement corrective actions.
• Support PCB Design Engineers by providing feedback on manufacturability and solder joint integrity based on Viscom AXI results.
• Assist Production & Maintenance Teams with troubleshooting and resolving inspection-related issues.
• Integrate Viscom AXI data with Test & Metrology Engineers to validate inspection results and ensure consistency across inspection stages.
4. Compliance & Documentation
• Ensure Viscom AXI inspection processes comply with IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-7095) and company quality requirements.
• Maintain accurate inspection reports, defect logs, and process documentation for traceability and quality assurance.
• Participate in internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inspection effectiveness.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Experience operating and programming Viscom(Viscom, Dage, Nordson X-ray silimar system are ) AXI systems for PCB inspection.
• Strong knowledge of X-ray image analysis, soldering defects, and intermetallic compound detection.
• Familiarity with SMT assembly, reflow soldering, and electronic component placement.
• Experience in AI-based inspection programming, machine learning model training, or algorithm development for automated defect detection.
• Ability to interpret inspection results and collaborate on process improvements with cross-functional teams.
• Understanding of IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-7095) and electronics quality control practices.
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar programming for AI-based inspection development ().
• Strong collaboration and troubleshooting skills to work across engineering, production, and quality teams.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Manufacturing, Computer Science, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience with Viscom AXI systems, SMT manufacturing, AI-based inspection programming, or quality assurance
- Experience with AXI systems (e.g., Viscom, Dage, Nikon, Nordson, Phoenix X-ray, etc.).
