The Vehicle Emissions and Safety Inspector is responsible for conducting vehicle emissions testing and automobile safety inspections for cars, pick-up trucks, SUVs, and mini-vans. This role ensures compliance with the requirements set forth by the State of Missouri Highway Patrol, maintaining high standards of accuracy, efficiency, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct Emissions Testing:

    • Perform vehicle emissions tests in accordance with Missouri state regulations.
    • Utilize appropriate testing equipment to measure exhaust emissions.
    • Record and analyze test results to determine if vehicles meet state emissions standards.
  2. Perform Safety Inspections:

    • Conduct thorough safety inspections of vehicles, including brakes, tires, lights, seat belts, and other critical components.
    • Identify and document any safety violations or concerns.
    • Ensure all inspected vehicles comply with Missouri safety regulations.
  3. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Accurately complete and maintain all necessary inspection forms and reports.
    • Enter test and inspection results into the state’s reporting system in a timely manner.
    • Provide clear, detailed reports to vehicle owners regarding the outcomes of inspections and tests.
  4. Customer Service:

    • Communicate effectively with vehicle owners, explaining test procedures, results, and any required follow-up actions.
    • Address customer inquiries and concerns with professionalism and courtesy.
    • Provide guidance on the steps needed to correct any identified issues.
  5. Equipment Maintenance:

    • Regularly calibrate and maintain testing equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
    • Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
  6. Compliance and Regulations:

    • Stay updated on changes to Missouri state emissions and safety inspection regulations.
    • Ensure all inspections and tests are conducted in full compliance with state laws and guidelines.
    • Attend training sessions and certification programs as required.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Vehicle Safety Inspector by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
  • Experience in automotive repair or inspection is .
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle systems and components.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity and the ability to use testing and inspection equipment.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a vehicle inspection station environment.
  • May be exposed to various weather conditions when working outdoors.
  • Use of personal protective equipment may be required.
