Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced DER (Designated Engineering Representative) Certification Engineer to serve as a subject matter expert in avionics certification. This role is critical in guiding engineering teams through the certification process for flight-critical avionics systems, software, and electronic hardware in coordination with global certification authorities such as the FAA, EASA, ANAC, and others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical authority in certification for avionics systems, providing subject matter expertise to internal engineering teams.

  • Lead efforts to obtain and maintain certification approvals for flight-critical hardware and software.

  • Track and interpret evolving global regulatory requirements related to avionics equipment and inform stakeholders of their implications.

  • Influence regulatory direction by engaging with certification authorities and representing company interests.

  • Provide strategic guidance to product development teams on certification strategy, compliance processes, and toolsets.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to assess product designs against applicable certification regulations and deliver comprehensive risk assessments.

  • Review and approve development plans, design documentation, verification strategies, and other key certification artifacts.

  • Serve as the primary technical liaison with the FAA and other international certification bodies, representing the company during audits, reviews, and regulatory interactions.

  • Support the development and implementation of new certification strategies in emerging areas such as autonomous flight and vertical takeoff/landing technologies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

  • Active FAA DER authorization or significant experience working toward DER candidacy.

  • In-depth knowledge of avionics certification processes and applicable standards (e.g., DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160, ARP4754A, ARP4761).

  • Minimum [X] years of experience in avionics systems, software, or electronic hardware development and certification.

  • Proven experience interacting with certification authorities (FAA, EASA, ANAC, etc.).

  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
