As a bioprocess engineer on an interdisciplinary early research and innovations team (R&D), you will have the opportunity to influence and drive decisions in new product development, technology invention, and long-term initiatives and strategies for BPG. This position will reach out across BPG businesses and the broader Thermo Fisher company to enrich and enable robust collaborations and partnerships for break-through research.What will you do?Work with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists to create consumables, devices, instruments, and equipment for use in bioprocessing across a range of bioprocessing modalities.Early product concept prototype design, specifications, build, and test from idea to demonstrated proof of concept.Domain expert for upstream bioprocessing. Perform experiments and studies in downstream separation processes such as harvest (recovery), chromatography, ultrafiltration / diafiltration, nano-filtration, viral clearance, and final fill-finish.Identify and evaluate developing technology and market trends in the biopharmaceutical space, including review of relevant scientific literature and attendance at appropriate scientific seminars and conferences.Engage customers, industry groups, and regulatory agencies to strengthen Thermo Fisher’s market presence and leadership.Author publications and presentations to internal and external audiences.How will you get here?Education/Experience:Master’s degree in Biological or Chemical Engineering; Molecular, Cellular, or Protein Biology; or a similarly appropriate field of study.10+ years laboratory hands-on experience in process development, MSAT, process engineering, or similar position in upstream processing (harvest through final fil-finish).Working understanding of the overall bioprocessing workflow including upstream cell culture, process analytics, data analysis, various lab and bioprocess instruments/ equipment, and MES software.Capable of performing design of experiments and post-experimental data analysis and decision making.Self-directed and motivated with the ability to handle ambiguity in task and project definition.Strong communication skills and comfortable presenting across organizational and customer levels; additional language abilities a plus.Preferred Qualifications:PhD degree in Biological or Chemical Engineering; Molecular, Cellular, or Protein Biology; or a similarly appropriate field of study with 5+ years of laboratory hands-on experience in upstream processing.Knowledge of processes for advanced therapies such as cell, therapy, gene therapy and nucleic acids.Our global team of more than 100,000 colleagues delivers an unrivaled combination of innovative technologies, purchasing convenience and pharmaceutical services through our industry-leading brands, including Thermo Scientific, Applied Biosystems, Invitrogen, Fisher Scientific, Unity Lab Services and Patheon.
