Building Materials Estimator I
The focus of this position is to be part of the Kindersley & District Co-op HABS Team. Applicants must come to work on time, with a positive attitude and approach to the job, and a strong awareness for safety in every task. This position requires the potential applicant to work, days, evenings and weekend shifts. This position requires ample amounts of walking, static and dynamic standing, bending, twisting, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) unassisted.Responsibilities will include: Provide leadership and expertise for all in-house project planning and development, including project scope, plans, material/component specifications and supporting material/component estimates. Monitor the building's material inventory levels, forecast future requirements, and order inventory accordingly. Maintain and develop a relationship with current contractors, architects, engineers, building inspectors, draftsperson/designers, material vendors, trades, local Co-ops, local Home Builders/Contractor Associations, and customers in general. Develop new contractor relationships and elevate the Local Co-ops presence in the market. Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, or computer-aided drawings and provide customers with estimates outlining the overall building material requirements. Suggest changes to construction plans where building code, structural integrity or efficiency may be a concern. Support the tendering process, providing quantities, costing/pricing and descriptive information associated with the overall building project. Provide product recommendations to improve design quality, efficiency and structural integrity as needed. Develop and maintain a Vendor Reference Database to track and specify material-specific information (product availability, unit cost, lead times) and research alternative vendors where specialty goods are needed. Able to work and perform in a team environment. Other duties as assigned. We are ideally seeking candidates with the following qualifications: Certificate and/or Diploma with a preference for Building/Architectural Science or Construction Management. 3-6 years of relevant and related experience. Computer knowledge and skills to develop spreadsheets, documents, and customer files. Honest, trustworthy, results-oriented and strive to be the best in your work. Excellent interpersonal, customer service and relationship-building skills. Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Decision-making skills in a fast-paced and pressurized work environment. Problem-solving skills, attention to detail and business savvy skills.
