Building Science Engineer

You will be a key technical leader responsible for overseeing and executing complex projects related to building envelope performance, energy efficiency, and sustainability. Your role will involve managing a variety of tasks from project conception through to completion, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices, while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Requirements Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage building science projects, including building envelope assessments, energy audits, retrofits, and new construction consulting. Prepare project proposals, budgets, schedules, and resource plans. Coordinate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met on time and within budget. Perform detailed analysis of building envelope systems, including thermal, moisture, and structural performance. Conduct site inspections, diagnostic testing, and forensic investigations to identify building performance issues. Develop and review design solutions, specifications, and technical reports related to building science. Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, standards, and sustainability guidelines (e.g., LEED, BC Energy Step Code). Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff. Reviewing work. Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong professional relationships and ensuring client satisfaction. Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Building Science, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in British Columbia, or eligibility to obtain. 5+ years of experience in building science, with a strong focus on building envelope design and analysis. Proven experience managing complex projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource management. Proficiency in building science software tools and programs (Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Deltek Vision and CAD software. Understand building codes, model national energy code, ASTM standards, CGSB standards, CSA standards. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, contractors, and team members. Ensure compliance with all relevant codes and standards. Work closely with architects, mechanical engineers, and other team members to integrate electrical designs with other building systems. Participate in coordination meetings to resolve design conflicts and optimize system performance. Provide advanced technical expertise in electrical engineering. Mentor and guide junior engineers and technicians, and review their work to ensure accuracy and quality. Incorporate energy-efficient and sustainable practices into electrical designs. Explore and implement innovative solutions that reduce energy consumption and enhance system performance. Engage with clients to understand their needs and expectations. Present design concepts, provide technical recommendations, and address any client concerns throughout the project lifecycle. Oversee the quality control process for electrical design and installation. Conduct site inspections to ensure systems are installed according to design specifications and industry standards. Prepare detailed electrical design documents, including drawings, specifications, and reports. Maintain comprehensive project documentation and ensure all deliverables are completed on time. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required. 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on commercial and mixed-use projects. Experience in the Vancouver or BC market is preferred. Proficient in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, and ETAP). Strong knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and best practices. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Certifications: Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in British Columbia is required.
