CarMax: Night Shift Automotive Technician

Under general supervision, the State Inspection Technician performs State vehicle safety inspections tests per state and/or federal regulations.

*Only candidates external to CarMax will qualify to receive the sign-on bonus.

Perform state inspections using appropriate equipment and adhering to prescribed rules, standards and procedures


Ensure that all vehicles meet CarMax Final Quality Standards.


Maintain, repair, and clean special equipment

Read, interpret and transcribe data in order to maintain accurate records.


~2 Year automotive trade school degree or has minimum 2 years automotive experience


~ Requires appropriate state inspection certification


~ Speak and listen to customers, associates and managers in person, on the phone, and/or on the radio.

Combination of both indoor and outdoor environment; Variable work schedules with shifts that may include nights, weekends, holidays and extended hour days.

The hourly rate for this position is:


$Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:


For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.
