Job Description: Chief Building Engineer
Healthcare Facility (Mission Bay, San Francisco)
$90per hour - Increasing to $94 in October 2025.
Monday to Friday
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Engineer to oversee the engineering operations of a state-of-the-art healthcare facility located in the Mission Bay area of San Francisco. This facility is home to 310 beds and operates in a fast-paced, critical healthcare environment. As the Chief Building Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and leading a team of 35 engineering professionals, ensuring the proper maintenance, functionality, and safety of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise a team of engineers and maintenance staff, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure efficient operation and safety of all building systems.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety systems, and other critical building infrastructure.
- Ensure all building systems meet regulatory requirements and standards, including compliance with healthcare industry regulations and Joint Commission guidelines.
- Manage preventative maintenance programs and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Collaborate with facility leadership to ensure operational goals and objectives are met while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
- Develop and manage schedules, budgets, and work orders for all engineering tasks, ensuring timely and effective completion.
- Respond to emergency situations promptly, including critical system failures, ensuring minimal disruption to healthcare operations.
- Maintain documentation of maintenance activities, inspections, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities management, with at least 2 years in a healthcare, hospital, or critical care environment.
- Strong knowledge of building systems and healthcare facility requirements, including compliance with regulatory standards and Joint Commission guidelines.
- Experience in managing teams, including hiring, training, and performance management.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a high-stakes, critical environment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to collaborate with various departments and stakeholders.
- Experience with helipad maintenance is desirable but not required.
- Must be a member of Local 39 Union or eligible to join.
Compensation:
- Pay rate: $90 per hour
- Union membership: Local 39
