Job Overview:This position serves as a Civil Engineering Technician with the District and is responsible for applying various inspection, sampling, and testing procedures to verify that construction project features and materials conform with standard specifications. Duties include performing laboratory testing, collecting samples of a variety of materials, perform testing and determining procedures to follow based on the type of material sampled. This position is also responsible for assisting with staking and surveying logistics and performing a variety of other related duties as assigned. Note: Essential functions involve significant physical demands related to carrying equipment and samples over rough terrain, climbing and bending. Regular travel within the District (up to 2,000 miles per month depending on the project location) and occasional overnight travel. Working outdoors in all types of weather. Varied Shifts - Typically 40-hour work weeks will be offered. Overtime may be available. This position involves travel as the majority of the work is performed at construction sites throughout the district. Minimum Qualifications: Valid Montana Driver’s License Relative knowledge and skills. The required knowledge and skills are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma, including coursework in algebra, geometry or trigonometry. The position prefers (LI) or requires (L2) aptitudes or experience in construction or related field (e.g., laboratory testing, transportation design, engineering, etc.), including experience in inspection, sampling, testing, and/or surveying. Alternative qualifications include: Any combination of additional related work experience and education equivalent to the minimum qualifications.
