We are a team of creative problem-solvers and thinkers looking for a highly motivated, responsible individual to work on civil land development projects in our Dallas-Fort Worth office.

About This Job


Harris Kocher Smith is looking for a Civil Project Engineer with 5+ years of local engineering experience working with Dallas, Fort Worth, or other central Texas municipalities and private developers.

As a Civil Project Engineer, you will assist the team with delivery on a variety of projects. You will be involved with daily tasks including design and coordination with in-house teams, clients, and municipalities. This role provides the training and development of skills that lead a candidate towards project management.

Project Engineer Essential Functions and Duties


Under general supervision, develop drainage studies and reports, hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, designs and drawings according to client specifications and Project Manager direction


Produce engineering plan sets, specifications, and submit documentation packages while following HKS standard operating procedures and applicable local, state, and federal requirements


Quality check all work and work of other designers to ensure complete and accurate plans are provided to engineers

Project Engineer Requirements


5+ years of site design experience, local experience required


Texas PE (or ability to acquire license) required


Advanced experience designing grading and drainage plans, detention and water quality ponds, open channels, closed conduit storm sewer, stormwater handling features, utility improvements, pipe networks, and cross-sections and profiles required.


Advanced ability in AutoCAD Civil 3D


Proficiency with Hydrologic and Hydraulic Modeling software (HEC-RAS, SWMM, CUHP)

Project Engineer Knowledge, Skills, Abilities


Proven ability to develop business opportunities, network with industry professionals, and build client relationships


Demonstrated success in winning new business and securing projects


Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and deliver complex civil engineering projects


Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills for engaging with potential clients and representing the firm at industry events

Pay Range:


$100,000 -$130,000 per year


Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.
