Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Clinical Laboratory Scientist to join our Technical Services team. Under the direction of the Director of Technical Services, you will prepare blood components and perform laboratory testing on donor blood according to FDA and AABB guidelines. Your work will ensure safe blood components for patient use and further manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform laboratory testing according to standard operating procedures in compliance with FDA and AABB guidelines.
- Label and deliver appropriate blood components to the Hospital Services department.
- Conduct quality control functions to ensure accurate and reliable work.
- Assist in the care and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and supplies.
- Meet educational and certification requirements of SCBC and the lab.
- Perform batch release functions before the release of platelet units for labeling in the absence of the Director.
- Collaborate with other team members in the lab, component prep, and Hospital Services to promote positive customer service and achieve internal harmony and repeat business.
- Follow SCBC/department policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Willingly perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related science with certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist from an accredited school.
Experience:
- Previous clinical laboratory experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist is .
- Blood banking experience is a plus.
Skills and Abilities:
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Professional appearance and adherence to PPE regulations.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods and handle heavy equipment.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Clinical Laboratory Scientist Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, bend, twist, and push/pull.
Working Conditions:
- Flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
- Laboratory environment with potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
- Repetitive and standardized tasks.
- Substantial periods of standing or sitting.
