CMT Engineering Technician

Willmer Engineering is looking for an experienced CMT Engineering Technician to join our team in Atlanta, GA and support our Construction Materials Testing department. This role involves performing field testing, observing project-specific conditions, and conducting site assessments to ensure the safety and compliance of construction projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating testing equipment, conducting inspections, performing tests, and documenting results while adhering to project specifications, safety standards, and industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field testing on materials including soils, concrete, masonry, rebar, asphalt, and other construction materials.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests on soil and concrete samples, preparing detailed reports of findings.
  • Assess site and subgrade conditions, providing recommendations for improvements and adjustments as necessary.
  • Generate and submit accurate field reports with test results, inspections, and observations via mobile devices for immediate submission to Project Managers.
  • Maintain clear communication with clients, contractors, and engineering staff regarding construction issues and project updates.
  • Assist with special inspections to ensure compliance with project specifications and public safety standards.
  • Operate testing equipment such as concrete mixers, compression machines, coring devices, and nuclear density gauges.
  • Work in diverse outdoor environments, including uneven, slippery, muddy, or frozen terrains, and adapt to changing weather conditions.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Radiation Safety and Nuclear Density Gauge certification .
  • Solid understanding of project drawings, specifications, and building codes.
  • Proficiency in using field data collection software, with the ability to apply mathematical formulas for field tests and calculations.
  • Capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 70 pounds regularly.
  • Comfortable working in physically demanding conditions, including climbing ladders and scaffolding and operating heavy equipment.
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to work night shifts or early mornings, as required by client needs.
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record, as travel to job sites is required.
  • Must pass a pre-employment screening, including background check, drug test, and driving record review.

Qualifications:

  • NICET Level I or II certifications in soils, concrete, and asphalt .
  • ACI Level I Concrete certification is highly .
  • Experience withDepartment of Transportation (DOT) projects is a plus.
  • Previous experience with both large and small construction projects.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to accurately document and report test results and inspections.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
