YOUR IMPACT
Royal Engineers & Consultants, LLC (Royal) seeks a Coastal Scientist/Planner to join our team. Royal is a leader in Louisiana's ecosystem restoration, risk reduction, and coastal planning services. We are currently engaged in various coastal projects, including, among many, restoration and protection master planning (e.g., Atchafalaya Master Plan, Pontchartrain Basin Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan), feasibility (e.g., Mississippi River Gulf Outlet Modification Feasibility Study), analytical (e.g., assessment of restoration program performance in the Barataria Basin) and preliminary engineering and design (Marsh Island; White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area; and Lafourche, St. Tammany, Plaquemines, and St. Bernard Parishes). We seek professionals to join our team and support/lead these exciting long-term projects.
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Project management leadership for both administrative and technical components of projects.
- Environmental data (e.g., water quality, flora, fauna, land loss) management and analyses relative to the performance of coastal restoration projects and programs.
- Strategic planning for prioritizing and ranking restoration and protection projects for parish, state, and federal planning projects/programs.
- Development of environmental assessments, restoration plans, and compliance documents such as for the Louisiana Trustee Implementation Group NRDA projects.
- Support coastal planning activities related to restoration, protection, resilience, and coastal resource management for parish, state, and federal clients.
- Research information on wetlands, endangered species, flora/fauna habitat requirements, cultural resources, water quality, etc.
- Analyze and interpret findings based on scientific literature, data, and existing knowledge.
- Prepare reports, maps, work plans, presentations, and correspondence.
- Assist in the development of proposals for the funding of coastal projects.
- Support Disaster Recovery services as needed, especially in areas where operations impact wetlands.
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED (JOB REQUIREMENTS)
Education
- A Master’s degree in Coastal or Environmental Science, Biology, Geology, or a related scientific discipline. Relevant and sufficient work experience may substitute for the Master’s degree requirement.
Experience
- Minimum two or more years of experience in the coastal and/or environmental field. Those with more experience will qualify for more senior-level positions.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of and ability to manage and analyze environmental data.
- Extensive knowledge of coastal wetland ecology.
- Knowledge of computer modeling and digital mapping related to its application to planning and science.
- Understanding of GIS.
- Willingness to learn new things and work on a wide variety of projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Supervise project team members.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage projects efficiently and within budget.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
