Job Description Job Title: Commercial Manager Job Location: Lagos, Nigeria Employment Type: Full-Time Work Mode: Hybrid Reporting Line: Chief Commercial Officer As the Commercial Manager at Matta, you will oversee and drive Matta's commercial activities, ensuring the achievement of revenue, sales, and market expansion goals in the Chemicals, Raw Materials, Ingredients, and Commodities (CRIC) market. You will develop innovative strategies to penetrate new markets, expand the customer and supplier base, and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders to ensure Matta’s market dominance and revenue growth. Key Responsibilities Commercial Strategy & Leadership Develop and execute a robust market development strategy to drive growth in the CRIC market. Identify and prioritize growth opportunities through market analysis and strategic planning. Drive revenue growth by setting aggressive yet achievable sales and commercial targets. Build and manage a portfolio of profitable customers and transactions through strong partnerships with reliable vendors. Manage existing vendors and create a pipeline for continuous onboarding of qualified suppliers. Identify and capitalize on new business opportunities, fostering relationships with key industry stakeholders, manufacturers, government agencies, and partners. Sales and Business Development Build and manage a high-performing team to achieve and exceed revenue targets. Design and implement sales strategies to capture new markets, expand Matta’s footprint, and retain top-tier customers. Drive customer acquisition strategies to increase Matta’s market share, fostering long-term partnerships. Oversee the end-to-end sales cycle, from prospecting to deal closure, ensuring seamless execution and achievement of sales goals. Cultivate strong relationships with key customers, vendors, and industry stakeholders to enhance loyalty and business opportunities. Manage and close TF transactions and projects, guiding the commercial planner on related activities (subject to approved project values). Collaborate cross-functionally to align commercial activities with Matta’s business objectives. Marketing and Market Intelligence Work closely with the marketing team to design and execute campaigns that enhance Matta’s brand visibility. Align marketing initiatives with commercial objectives to drive lead generation and customer engagement. Conduct regular market analysis to identify trends, emerging markets, customer preferences, and competitive dynamics. Use insights to refine product offerings, pricing strategies, and value propositions. Monitor regulatory changes and advise on their potential impact on operations. Operational Excellence Streamline commercial operations to ensure efficiency and scalability. Establish systems and processes to optimize quality, cost-efficiency, and on-time delivery. Coordinate cross-departmental efforts to align with commercial goals. Customer Experience and Relationship Management Serve as the primary point of contact for key accounts, resolving issues and delivering superior service. Expand Matta’s client base by diversifying portfolios and entering new markets. Introduce mechanisms to measure and enhance the overall customer experience. Team Leadership and Development Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and identify growth opportunities. Organize training sessions to build capacity in sales, negotiations, and market dynamics. Foster innovation and collaboration within the team. Performance Monitoring and Reporting Present regular performance reports to the Chief Commercial Officer and management. Use objectives and key results (OKRs) to track progress and identify areas for improvement. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field. Extensive business development experience, ideally with a background in chemistry and a solid understanding of business management,sales,business development in the chemical industry is required. Minimum of 7 years in a commercial management role. At least 3 years of experience managing a team. Proven track record in B2B sales, business development, and operations, with the ability to navigate challenging markets in the chemical industry. Exceptional communication and negotiation skills. Strong project management abilities. Excellent numerical and analytical skills. Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality. Outstanding written communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex commercial issues. Strong industry awareness and ability to analyze local and global technological trends. Demonstrated leadership skills and self-motivation, with a strong sense of ownership and commitment.
