The Environmental Health & Safety Manager is responsible for the integration of environmental health & safety services into the business practices and compliance with regulatory requirements. The Environmental Health & Safety Manager oversees responsibilities of all ETC activities related to environmental health & safety services and has direct interaction with EHS Staff, Superintendents, Project Manager, Project Executive, and Ownership.

Has advanced knowledge and ability to coach/guide others in:

  • Building and Construction Knowledge - EHS: Applies building and construction knowledge to properly assess all EH&S risks and exposures during all phases of the project progression.
  • Communications: Creates and delivers communications that express ideas clearly and concisely using appropriate mediums. Targets the amount, form, level of detail, and content of information to the needs of the receiver/audience.
  • Compliance Inspections: Conducts compliance inspections to ensure hazardous conditions or at-risk behaviors are identified and corrected and that project teams are following EHS policy and procedures. Implements and maintains corrective actions to remediate non-compliance. Travel for site inspections as necessary.
  • EHS Performance Indicators: Maintains, tracks and trends all leading and lagging indicators and provides environmental, health and safety (EHS) statistics necessary for submitting reports and communicating performance to all affected groups.
  • EHS Regulations: Keeps current on all EH&S regulations and utilizes all federal, state and local requirements, industry standards and governing regulations to provide guidance and effectively communicate changes to affected groups
  • EHS Tools and Technology: Utilizes digital platforms, tools and systems for tracking and trending EH&S metrics, creating EHS plans and report documentation
  • Incident Management - Corporate-level: Manages incident closeout associated insurance claims, injury classification, OSHA recordkeeping requirements and distribution of corrective and preventive actions company-wide.
  • Monitoring and Measuring: Conducts quantitative and qualitative analysis to audit, evaluate and report on project performance of the Safety, Health and Environmental Management System.
  • Plans and Specifications - EHS: Reads and interprets client/owner specifications and EH&S requirements. Outlines and makes recommendations to ensure compliance with all EHS regulations and standards, ETC policies and all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Recordkeeping: Receives, tracks and maintains all EH&S related documentation (Incident reports, training records, monitoring and calibration records, other safety documentation, etc.)

Has demonstrated proficiency in:

  • Incident Management - Project-level: Conducts and/or manages incident investigations ensuring that accidents involving personal injury, property damage, environmental impacts, etc. are thoroughly investigated, analyzed, and documented.
  • Risk Management: Identifies potential risks related to operations, specifications, scope, and project execution. Develops plans and strategies to mitigate risk throughout the life cycle of a project.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Organizational Impact:
• Owns and develops operational plans and strategies that will directly impact the achievement of overall functional results. Directs the execution of strategies established by functional leadership. Establishes operational plans for job area with short- to mid-term impact on results (eg, 1-3 years).
• Work requires a high degree of responsibility for resources, and frequently influences business decisions made by functional leadership.

Innovation and Complexity:
• Responsible for making moderate to significant improvements driving innovation or operational excellence for processes, systems or products to enhance performance of job area.
• Problems and issues faced are numerous and undefined, and require detailed information gathering, analysis and investigation to understand the problem. Problems are difficult and moderately complex. Problems typically impact multiple departments or specialties. Problems are typically solved through drawing from prior experience and analysis of issues.

Communication and Influence:
• Communicates with parties within and outside of own job function, and typically has responsibilities for communicating with parties external to the organization, which may include customers or vendors.
• Works to influence others to accept job function’s view/ practices and agree/accept new concepts, practices, and approaches.
• Communicates with executive leadership regarding matters of significant importance to the organization.
• May conduct briefings with senior leaders within the job function – ability and authority to stop work as deemed necessary
• May at times be required to negotiate regarding operational issues.

Leadership and Talent Management:
• May be responsible for creating workforce and staffing plans for the department / unit to ensure availability of human capital necessary to accomplish departmental business results.

  • In charge of new hire OSHA compliance training and refreshers of existing employees.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – in a related field or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience.
  • All relevant safety certifications (OSHA, SST, etc)
  • Requires broad management and leadership knowledge to lead multiple job area
  • Typically has mastery level knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline with a broad understanding of other areas within the job function.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Highly organized with strict attention to detail
  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees
  • Willingness and ability to travel to all active jobsites
  • Ability to process requests quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivated and self-starter
  • Deadline-driven
