Estimator/Construction Coordinator

Leading family-owned home builder/developer seeks an experienced construction cost estimator to join our dynamic management team. The ideal candidate will be an energetic self-starter adept at generating cost estimates for base house and custom options for a variety of product types. The ability to work in a time-critical environment while maintaining attention to detail is a must. This position presents a great opportunity to step into a key operational role within a venerable home building concern.

Qualifications and key competencies:

• Strong knowledge of building construction, materials products, means, methods, and assemblies

• Understanding of building codes, laws and ordinances

• Knowledge of the permitting process

• Adept at reading construction plans and specifications along with interpretation of same

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and home builder software

• Proficient in construction scheduling and sequencing

• Ability to interface with sales associates, surveyors, engineers, and designers in the development of construction estimates and/or changes to existing products

• Self-starter and results-oriented

• Strong ability to multi-task, problem solve and meet deadlines.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Construct, input, arrange, and retrieve detailed cost estimates for building assemblies and options via Excel worksheets

• Construct detailed home construction line item budget sheets from cost estimates

• Data entry of cost estimates and established retail prices into home builder software system to create templates for material purchase orders and sales option sheets

• Discuss and disseminate cost and sales price data to field operation, sales department and management

• Discuss and disseminate standard option and custom option information to field operation and management via home builder software in a timely fashion

• Manage construction stages pertaining to the timing of standard or custom option requests

• Plan, review, and “red line” drawings for correctness and return to designer for revision

• Interface with accounting, sales and construction departments pertaining to data entry and costed items in the home builder software system

• Retrieve, review, and cost-out custom option requests from sales, and submit worksheets to management for establishing retail pricing

• Continual update and maintenance of cost and price information for all products sold via the home builder software system.
