Position Summary
The Construction Irrigation Crew Leader manages daily tasks and operations on assigned landscape construction projects to ensure quality and timely completion. This role includes leading and organizing the work of Landscape Crew Members while actively participating in installing design elements. Specialization may include hardscapes, planting, grading, irrigation, or aquatics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Worksite Management: Oversees all landscape construction activities, ensuring work quality and adherence to timelines.
- Irrigation Systems: Installs commercial and residential systems and assists with repairs as needed.
- Leadership: Guides and mentors crew members, enforcing company policies, attendance, and dress codes.
- Customer Service: Acts as a liaison with property owners, providing exceptional service when supervisors are unavailable.
- Problem-Solving: Identifies and resolves on-site issues, consulting management as needed.
- Material Preparation: Ensures daily readiness of trucks, tools, equipment, and materials required for projects.
- Planting: Installs trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals; applies mulch as needed.
- Hardscape Installation: Builds retaining walls, installs boulders, wall stone, pavers, water features, lighting, and irrigation.
- Physical Labor: Performs tasks such as digging, raking, pruning, debris removal, and site cleanup.
- Equipment Operation: Operates vehicles and machinery, including Bobcats, compactors, trenchers, and saws.
- Tool Maintenance: Cleans, sharpens, greases, and fuels tools and equipment daily.
- Winter Support: Assists with snow removal as business demands.
- Safety Compliance: Enforces and adheres to safety policies and procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Task Delegation: Directs and assigns duties to crew members.
- Mentorship and Training: Provides guidance, feedback, and training to team members.
- Team Building: Cultivates a positive, team-oriented work environment and resolves conflicts as needed.
- Time Management: Reviews and approves crew members’ hours, ensuring payroll accuracy.
Education, Certification, and License:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Driver’s License: Valid license with a good record required;
Experience:
- Landscape Construction: Minimum of 2-3 years, including irrigation system installation.
- Leadership: Previous foreman or crew leader experience .
- Equipment Operation: Experience with trenchers, excavators, loaders, Bobcats, skid steers, or similar machinery required.
Skills and Requirements:
- Leadership: Strong ability to direct, mentor, and manage teams effectively.
- Technical Expertise: Knowledge of effective landscaping techniques, including hardscapes and plant care.
- Problem-Solving: Capable of troubleshooting and resolving issues efficiently.
- Plan Interpretation: Ability to read and analyze design plans.
- Product Knowledge: Familiarity with trees, shrubs, and other landscape materials.
- Communication: Fluent in English; bilingual Spanish-English skills are advantageous.
Physical Requirements
- Activity: Frequent standing, walking, squatting, and stooping throughout the day.
- Lifting: Regularly lifts up to 50 lbs; occasionally carries and pushes/pulls similar weights.
- Fine Motor Skills: Required for handling tools and small equipment.
- Mobility: Full arm extension above head and in front of the body.
Job Specifications
- Position Type: Full-time, seasonal.
- Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM (40-55 hours per week) during peak season (April to November); Saturdays as needed.
- Winter Hours: Vary from December to March, primarily for snow removal.
- Overtime: May be required based on workload.

The Irrigation Service Technician – Lead is responsible for seasonal start up, shutdown, maintenance, and troubleshooting of residential and commercial irrigation systems for the Bruce Company. This will include systems ranging in size from small residential to sports fields and nurseries.
