We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Construction Project Manager to oversee and manage construction projects from inception to completion. Under the direction of the Director of Facilities Planning and Construction Department, the Construction Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the execution of construction projects, with a strong emphasis on hands-on, physical involvement in the construction process. This role requires the ability to actively manage and participate in all aspects of project development, from planning through to completion, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of safety and quality. The candidate must be willing and able to engage physically on-site, working directly with construction teams to ensure success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Active Project Management & Hands-On Site Leadership:
  • Take a physically active role on-site, engaging directly in the construction process by supervising work, coordinating labor, and assisting with hands-on tasks as needed.
  • Oversee daily on-site activities, ensuring work is progressing as planned, addressing issues directly, and making on-the-ground adjustments to keep projects on track.
  • Physically inspect ongoing work and materials, ensuring that all construction meets design specifications, quality standards, and safety protocols.
  • Actively work alongside construction teams to demonstrate techniques, resolve site-specific issues, and make real-time decisions.
  • Team Supervision & Coordination:
  • Supervise and direct all site personnel, including contractors, laborers, and subcontractors, ensuring that work is done safely and efficiently.
  • Lead by example on-site, maintaining a high level of energy and focus to keep the team motivated and on track.
  • Provide hands-on guidance to the construction crew to ensure high productivity, quality control, and adherence to safety standards.
  • Provide direction on-site, ensuring clear communication and alignment with project goals.
  • Collaborate with the Director to address any staffing or scheduling concerns and ensure adequate resources are available.
  • Physical Labor & Site Problem Solving:
  • Assist with physical labor on the site when necessary, including lifting, carrying, setting up equipment, and addressing on-the-ground challenges.
  • Manage the flow of materials, tools, and equipment to ensure the site is organized and that work can proceed without unnecessary delays.
  • Step in to physically help resolve any obstacles or challenges that may arise, whether it’s re-aligning materials or addressing unexpected site conditions.
  • Safety & Quality Control:
  • Ensure all work performed on-site meets required safety and quality standards, conducting regular safety inspections and ensuring compliance with safety guidelines.
  • Personally monitor safety on-site, identifying hazards and proactively addressing any issues to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ensure that all materials and construction methods adhere to the highest quality standards, physically inspecting and verifying work as it progresses.
  • Construction Site Troubleshooting:
  • Work directly with construction crews to address problems in real-time, stepping in to solve issues that arise during the construction process.
  • Perform physical inspections of work to ensure it meets project specifications, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Directly address challenges such as material shortages, site constraints, or unexpected changes in scope, physically adjusting operations as needed.
  • Project Coordination & Communication:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all site-related inquiries, working directly with construction laborers.
  • Provide hands-on updates to the Director of Facilities Planning and Construction, highlighting project progress, challenges, and site-specific issues.
  • Document site conditions and issues, ensuring that updates are provided promptly to the Director.
  • Budget & Resource Management:
  • Actively manage resources on-site, ensuring that labor, materials, and equipment are available and used efficiently.
  • Track and report on budget expenditures related to on-site activities, ensuring that physical work stays within the allocated budget.
  • Approve materials and tools required for site work, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while maintaining quality.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
  • Maintain detailed logs of site activities, progress, and any issues or changes to the project scope, providing regular reports to the Director.
  • Document the daily progress, weather conditions, material deliveries, and workforce time and attendance.
  • Ensure that all work is documented properly, including change orders and additional work.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or a related field .
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent is highly desirable but not required.
  • Experience:
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in construction project management with a focus on physical, on-site work.
  • Minimum 3 years in a leadership role where physical engagement on-site is required (e.g., supervisor, foreman, or project manager).
  • Proven experience with large-scale construction projects, managing resources, budgets, and timelines while being physically present on-site.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to engage in physically demanding work and troubleshoot issues on-site.
  • Proficiency with project management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project) is .
  • Bilingual capacity is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction safety, building codes, and regulations.
  • Ability to problem-solve quickly on-site, with a hands-on approach to fixing issues.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to engage in physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, carrying materials, and moving equipment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, and crouch for extended periods, as well as climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • Ability to operate machinery, tools, and heavy equipment as needed for construction activities.
  • Willingness to work in construction environments, including exposure to dust, noise, and other physical conditions.
