Job Summary: The Construction Supervisor will oversee and coordinate various construction projects from start to finish, ensuring that schedules and budgets are followed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· Selects, contracts, and oversees crews for specific needs such as boring or laying cable
· Supervises each crew to ensure that work meets quality standards and adheres to specifications
Required Education / Experience & Qualifications:
· Valid ‘For-Hire’ Driver’s License
· Minimum of five years of construction experience
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
· Proficient with ARC and GIS software
· Thorough understanding of contracts, plans, specifications, and regulations
· Ability to remain flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment
· Ability to make intelligent and quick decisions, work well under pressure, and when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays
· Ability to effectively multitask while analyzing and solving problems
· Thorough understanding of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings
· Ability to provide leadership to a crew
Education / Experience & Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in construction science, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering
· Construction Manager certification by the American Institute of Constructors or Construction Management Association of America
· OSHA 30 Certification
· CDL License
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Provides leadership in initial planning stage by collaborating with clients, architects, engineers, or other involved parties; develops detailed description of jobs and materials necessary to complete project
· Schedules and coordinates projects in logical steps and budgets time necessary to meet each deadline
· Prepares and submits budget estimates and regularly communicates with clients concerning budget progress and costs
· Plans, coordinates, organizes, oversees, and directs activities regarding the construction and maintenance of assigned structures, facilities, and systems
· Ensures safety standards and guidelines are followed on the jobsite and that all safety codes are met in construction
· Ensures billing is updated and submitted timely
· Collaborates with clients, supervisory staff, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve problems, including work procedures, complaints, and construction or design issues
· Manages and leads actions that are necessary due to delays, bad weather, or emergencies at construction sites
· Develops and maintains good working relationships with a variety of people, including owners, managers, designers, supervisors, tradespersons, craft workers, and the general public
· Monitors Track VO daily and updates equipment location changes if needed
· Performs other related duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
· Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas
· Must possess the coordination and manual dexterity necessary to climb poles, operate hand and power tools and equipment utilized in the upkeep, repair, and maintenance tasks
· Must be able to stand and walk up to ten hours per day and climb multiple sets of stairs while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 60 pounds
· Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at a time and push or pull 50-pound loads at a time
· Must be able to drive or ride in a vehicle for up to eight hours to travel to and from job sites
· Must be able to work in varying weather and temperatures
· Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching
· Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers
· Must have flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the business
· Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite
Safety Expectations:
· Know and enforce company safety rules and policies to include the company's drug-free workplace policy, incident reporting policy, and fleet / safe driving policies
· Verify safety rules are being followed by performing documented work safety assessments
· Organize and deliver jobsite and shop safety meetings to employees
· Perform documented corrective action with employees when safety rules are broken or when unsafe conditions are discovered
· Recognize and reward employees when safety rules are followed, and unsafe conditions are controlled
· Require, support, and promote pre-work job safety analysis / task safety analysis processes
· Assess special projects and new jobs for safety concerns and prepare safety controls prior to beginning work
· Manage safety equipment and personal protective equipment used by employees in your department and span of control
· Verify and require that all vehicles, supplies, equipment, tools, and machines are used safely and maintained properly
· Stop all unsafe acts by ANY employee and control hazardous conditions & risks that develop throughout the workday
· Empower and authorize employees to work safely, utilize safety gear, and correct unsafe acts and hazardous conditions
· Participate in management-level safety briefs and training
· After an incident, participate in investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
Company DescriptionRobert “Bob” Sellenriek started his telephone construction company in 1979 with a vision, a used backhoe, a truck, a trencher, and 2 men. Today, Sellenriek Construction, Inc. operates from five locations and employs almost 150 people. Sellenriek Construction was founded on March 12th, 1979 by Robert “Bob” Sellenriek and his wife, Dixie. Prior to this, Bob had worked for L,P&H and Burnup & Sims for ten years. At its beginning, Sellenriek Constructions areas of service were primarily in east-central Missouri.
During the first decade in operation, there were many changes within the company. In 1981 the company placed its first fiber optic cable. On November 17th, 1986 Sellenriek Construction was incorporated under the laws of the State of Missouri. Sellenriek Construction work areas had expanded and employment grew to roughly twenty-five employees. In addition to the growth of service areas and employees, Bob and Dixie now had three children, Steve, Heath and Joy.
Services Sellenriek Construction could provide grew in 1991 when it purchased its first horizontal directional boring machine. In January 1998 the corporation purchased Cable Plow, Inc. located in Lewistown, Missouri allowing Sellenriek Construction Inc. to better serve its growing list of clients. Also, in 1998 and 1999 respectively, Bob & Dixie’s sons Steve and Heath started working for the company.
In 2002 Sellenriek Construction opened its third office located in Columbia, Missouri. Sellenriek Construction Inc. service’s expanded yet again to include electrical distribution and directional boring of large diameter pipe. In 2003 Joys future husband, Joe Oden, started working for the company and was followed by Joy in 2004.
During 2009, being Sellenriek Constructions 30th year in business, major changes took place. A construction yard was opened in Warrensburg as well as a fifth location in Jefferson City. Currently Sellenriek Construction has almost 150 dedicated employees throughout the state of Missouri. Sellenriek Construction, Inc. remains a family owned and operated company. Bob is President of the corporation and is still very active in the company. Besides being officers, Steve, Heath, and Joy are actively involved in the day to day operations of the company.
From its humble beginning through today, Sellenriek Construction Inc. has done business with a simple motto – Do what is right for the customer. Proof of this is the fact that Sellenriek Construction Inc. has had many of the same clients for over 30 years and plans to work these same clients and more for the next 30.
