We are seeking an individual to join our team as a Control Systems Engineer at the Technical Service Center. This position aims to enhance the company's automation by identifying, recommending, and implementing changes to control systems hardware and software while fostering a better understanding of controls through workforce development and training.

The principal accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and promote a positive workplace culture through ACSC values of Safety, Integrity, Quality, Teamwork, and Accountability.
  • Create and design control systems for continuous and batch process controls. Develop specifications for process instrumentation, variable frequency drives, and control valves. Produce comprehensive control systems documentation, such as process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), loop wiring diagrams, specifications, manuals, PLC programs, and HMI configurations.
  • Manages optimizing existing control systems, ensuring they are finely tuned and operating at peak efficiency. Key responsibilities include participating in needs assessment analyses, making recommendations, and overseeing the development and installation of future factory automation capital projects. Additionally, this role involves attaining alarm management standards to ensure timely and accurate alerts, which contributes to overall system reliability and safety.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive training program to equip all employees who interact with the company’s control system with the necessary skills and knowledge. Creates training materials, conducts sessions, and ensures continuous improvement of the training curriculum to meet evolving needs. Collaborates with various departments to identify training requirements, assess the effectiveness of training programs, and implement enhancements to ensure optimal performance.
  • Plans, executes, and oversees capital projects, ensuring they are completed within the allocated budget and schedule.
  • Collaborates with factory maintenance staff and engineers to analyze and recommend equipment specifications, select and install new equipment, suggest improvements, and troubleshoot processes. Assesses projects and equipment to evaluate life cycle benefits and return on investment.
  • Enhances the company’s operational technologies by upgrading computer hardware, employing beneficial software applications, optimizing networking systems, and improving documentation. This includes implementing advanced hardware and software solutions, ensuring robust and efficient network connectivity, and maintaining thorough documentation of all system changes and upgrades.
  • Assists with the startup of factories and is often involved in multiple projects with various contractors and factory labor that conclude just before the factory startup.
  • Other duties as assigned.

To be successful in this position requires a Bachelor of Science degree, typically in engineering or computer science, along with a strong background in industrial control systems. Knowledge and prior industrial experience with a DCS (DeltaV), PLCs, control systems programming, HMI design, administering training, industrial networking, computer programming, AutoCAD, other computer drafting and design software, and process modeling are desirable. The position demands excellent project management skills and effective written and verbal communication abilities. The individual must be capable of prioritizing and organizing work to manage their schedule effectively. They should also make necessary decisions or sacrifices to ensure the timely startup of factories, within their reasonable ability to control circumstances. Travel is required as necessary to various agriculture and factory locations; therefore, a valid driver’s license is required.
