Position Summary:
The Controls and Documentation Engineering will play a crucial role in supporting engineering and operations teams by creating, organizing, and maintaining technical documentation while assisting in the development and optimization of control systems. This internship provides hands-on experience in an engineering environment, offering exposure to control systems and documentation practices while contributing to operational efficiency and quality management. Ideal candidates will be detail-oriented individuals with an interest in control systems and technical documentation, eager to apply their knowledge and gain valuable experience.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Controls Engineering Support
- Assist in the design, development, and optimization of control systems to ensure they are efficient, reliable, and meet performance standards.
- Support the development, testing, and troubleshooting of control system software and hardware, including PLCs, SCADA systems, and other automation tools.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define control system requirements and integration needs.
- Assist in system commissioning and operational testing to ensure control systems meet project specifications.
- Provide ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting support to ensure control systems remain operational and minimize disruptions.
- Analyze and recommend improvements to existing control systems, incorporating industry best practices, new technologies, and operational feedback.
- Document control system designs, configuration changes, and maintenance procedures to ensure accurate and up-to-date technical records.
- Stay up-to-date on industry standards, codes, and regulations for control systems, ensuring compliance in all aspects of work.
Documentation Control
- Assist in developing and organizing technical documentation such as system specifications, schematics, operating procedures, and maintenance manuals, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
- Maintain version control for all technical documentation to ensure updates are tracked and historical records are preserved.
- Ensure documentation adheres to relevant industry standards, internal procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Regularly audit documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance, recommending improvements or corrections as needed.
Other Essential Skills and Experience:
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Basic understanding of engineering principles and technical documentation standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) is a plus.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Non-Essential Duties:
- Assist in improving documentation processes and workflows.
- Support the engineering team in research and data analysis for ongoing projects.
- Contribute to team meetings and provide input on ongoing projects and improvements.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Previous experience or coursework in engineering or documentation management is a plus.
- Strong interest in quality assurance, engineering processes, and technical standards.
- Availability to work full-time on-site for the duration of the internship.
