Job: Controls Specialist / PLC Programmer
Location: Bolingbrook, IL
Schedule: Monday to Saturday, 6-day work week; occasional off-shift and holiday availability required

Position Overview:
We are seeking a Controls Specialist / PLC Programmer with strong hands-on experience in PLC and HMI programming (preferably Allen-Bradley) to join our team. This person will spend 80% of their time on the plant floor, troubleshooting, programming, and maintaining control systems, with the remaining 20% focused on office work like documentation and project planning. You will play a key role in ensuring our manufacturing equipment operates efficiently, driving process improvements, and providing technical guidance to the team.
This role is crucial to the smooth operation of our facilities, and we’re looking for someone who is not just a part-changer but a problem-solver who can train others and make an immediate impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot, program, and maintain PLCs and HMIs, primarily Allen-Bradley systems.
- Spend the majority of your time on the plant floor, responding to breakdowns and working on preventative maintenance.
- Collaborate with the maintenance and engineering teams to implement system improvements and equipment upgrades.
- Train and guide technicians on troubleshooting and maintenance of control systems.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and safety standards.
- Participate in continuous process improvement efforts and plant-wide initiatives.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- 3-5+ years of experience in a controls-focused role, preferably in food manufacturing.
- Proficiency in PLC and HMI programming (Allen-Bradley experience required; Siemens is a plus).
- Strong electrical knowledge, including reading and interpreting electrical schematics and control panel design.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
- Experience programming Servo Motors or VFDs for motion control applications.
- Familiarity with PowerFlex Drives with Ethernet/IP capabilities.
- Experience working with and configuring DeviceNet.
- Education in electronics, such as Electronics Engineering, Electrical Maintenance, or Electronic and Computer Technology (engineering degree ).
- Mechanical aptitude and background.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
- Experience in training or teaching other technicians.
