Location: Equatorial Guinea, West Africa (FPSO)
Status: Onshore Residential
Client: Oil & Gas Operator / E&P
Job Overview:
Our client an Oil & Gas Operator is seeking an experienced Corrosion Engineer to join their team for a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit offshore West Africa.
The Corrosion Engineer will be responsible for managing the integrity of all equipment and structures, focusing on corrosion prevention, monitoring, and mitigation strategies. This role is vital in ensuring the longevity and safe operation of the FPSO, helping to minimize the risk of corrosion-related failures and extending the service life of critical assets.
Key Responsibilities:
Corrosion Management:
o Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive corrosion management plans for the FPSO, including internal and external corrosion control measures.
o Monitor the condition of all structural, piping, and equipment surfaces, using techniques such as ultrasonic testing, radiography, and visual inspections to detect and assess corrosion.
Corrosion Prevention and Mitigation:
o Design and oversee the implementation of corrosion prevention systems, including coatings, cathodic protection, and chemical inhibitors.
o Recommend and manage the application of protective coatings and linings for various surfaces to prevent corrosion.
o Lead the evaluation and selection of materials to ensure their suitability for the offshore environment, considering factors such as corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.
Inspection and Monitoring:
o Conduct regular inspections of all relevant structures and equipment, maintaining detailed records of corrosion rates and conditions.
o Utilize advanced monitoring techniques, such as corrosion coupons and probes, to assess the effectiveness of corrosion control measures.
o Analyze inspection and monitoring data to identify trends and predict future corrosion-related risks, making recommendations for corrective actions as needed.
Failure Analysis and Reporting:
o Investigate corrosion-related failures or incidents, determining root causes and developing strategies to prevent recurrence.
o Prepare detailed reports on corrosion findings, mitigation activities, and inspection results, ensuring accurate documentation and communication with management.
Collaboration and Compliance:
o Work closely with the maintenance, inspection, and operations teams to ensure that corrosion prevention activities are integrated into overall FPSO operations.
o Ensure that all corrosion management activities comply with relevant industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
o Participate in audits, risk assessments, and safety reviews related to corrosion management.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
o Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Corrosion Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
o Minimum of 8 years of experience in corrosion engineering within the oil and gas industry, with a preference for offshore or FPSO experience.
o Strong background in corrosion management, including the design and implementation of prevention and monitoring systems.
Technical Skills:
o Proficiency in corrosion monitoring and inspection techniques, including NDT methods.
o Deep understanding of corrosion mechanisms, protective coatings, and cathodic protection systems.
o Experience with material selection for offshore environments and knowledge of industry standards (e.g., NACE, ISO).
Certifications:
o Relevant certifications in corrosion engineering (e.g., NACE Certified Corrosion Specialist, Cathodic Protection Technician).
o Offshore safety training certifications (e.g., BOSIET, HUET) are required.
Soft Skills:
• Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex corrosion data and develop effective solutions.
• Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively report findings and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail in all inspection, monitoring, and reporting activities.
• Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, multicultural offshore environment.
• Proactivity: A proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential corrosion issues before they become critical.
