Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Design Engineer to join our San Francisco Electrical team. This position requires a self-motivated individual with strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.


As the Design Engineer, you will perform a variety of electrical design activities for a diverse array of projects under the supervision of mid-to-senior level staff and with an emphasis on innovation and sustainability. You will represent the firm in various forms of project interactions with clients, contractors, architects, and other project team members. Strong initiative and follow-through are essential.


Core Responsibilities

  • Work closely with mid to senior-level engineers through the electrical design and construction administration processes.
  • Create and implement electrical designs in a BIM environment.
  • Conduct analyses to develop electrical design options and recommendations for consideration by mid to senior-level engineers.
  • Assist in the planning and design of code-compliant electrical systems for commercial facilities, including education, healthcare, office facilities, data centers, life sciences, and other commercial and industrial projects.
  • Propose innovative solutions to design issues.
  • Coordinate project scope, design, and deadlines with project managers/senior engineers.
  • Perform submittal and shop drawing reviews and respond to RFIs in a timely manner.
  • Learn to conduct construction site reviews, prepare feasibility studies, and write Basis of Design (BOD) reports.
  • Work with a dedicated lighting team to design fully functional lighting and control systems.
  • Manage tasks as required to ensure work is completed on time and on budget.
  • Actively participate in design and construction project team meetings.
  • Coordinate, support, and communicate with colleagues across several disciplines.
  • Maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that designs are compliant with local Building/Energy Codes and LEED standards.
  • Other initiatives as assigned.

Ideal Candidate

  • Knowledge of codes, standards, and construction/engineering processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solutions-driven engineer who isnt afraid to ask for help and works well in a team setting.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Revit, Bluebeam Revu, and other engineering analysis and compliance software
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) license, or active pursuit of licensure.
  • LEED Accreditation .


Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 2 4 years of relevant experience in the design field.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of state and local Building Codes (NEC, energy codes, etc.)

Salary Range

This is a hybrid role. It is anticipated that the working days in the office will be done at our San Francisco, CA office. The expected salary range for candidates who will work in San Francisco, CA is $80,000 100,000.


Exact compensation may vary based on prospective employees level of skill, experience, and location. ATCE is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
