They are now seeking an experienced Designer/Manager to lead and mentor their talented team of design engineers and CAD technicians. You will provide your expertise by overseeing the specification of HV primary equipment, design protection and control schemes, and conduct simulation and modeling studies to ensure compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities of the Design Manager:

  • Manage and support both CAD technicians and Electrical Design Engineers
  • Update and compile company design standards, overseeing the design process
  • Produce technical specifications for HV primary equipment and protection/control systems
  • Design HV substations (11 kV to 132 kV) and select appropriate primary equipment
  • Collaborate with the CAD drafting team to create equipment layouts and cable route drawings
  • Design secondary control wiring and prepare protection reports
  • Produce AC/DC schematics and work with panel assemblers
  • Select and design cable routes for HV and LV cables using CYMCAP and Amtech software
  • Ensure all designs meet safety standards and regulatory compliance, including conducting design risk assessments
  • Manage simulation studies for connections and conduct earthing design studies
  • Attend site inspections and manufacturer acceptance tests as required
  • Foster client relationships and represent the company in design and project meetings


Criteria for the Design Manager:

  • Relevant experience in high voltage electrical engineering design 33kV and above
  • A minimum of a 2.1 Degree in Electrical Engineering; a higher degree or postgraduate qualification
  • Experience in electrical contracting or utility industries, with a strong technical foundation
  • Strong project management and communication skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines
  • Excellent report writing abilities and a knack for conveying technical information clearly
