Hiring Salary Range:  $76,399.00 - $91,678.80


Workdays/Hours:  Monday - Friday   /   8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.


 


This position supports and assists with development review activities for the Transportation Department.  The position performs professional engineering work engaged in permit review and assessment. Work requires independent evaluation and analysis of issues and the exercise of judgment, education and experience to select and apply criteria to resolve problems and make recommendations. Decision-making includes selecting the method to address a problem or issue, subject to the constraints established by management objectives and direction. Responsible for reviewing drawings; processing applications; conducting inspections; responding to customer questions; maintaining records; verifying permits; and/or performing related duties.


 





DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES





Reviewing drawings and permit applications for conformance with applicable regulations and adopted plans;





Reviewing traffic impact analyses to determine required mitigation for developments;





Conducting signage and pavement marking inspections for new developments;





Responding to customer questions;





Maintaining GIS and other records;





Coordinating review of traffic control plans and traffic signal plans with Traffic Operations staff.





 





MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE





Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction project management, or a directly related field.





Five years of related engineering and/or project management experience.





North Carolina Engineer in Training (EIT) Registration or obtain within 180 days of hire.





Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record or obtain within 60 days of hire.





ADDITIONAL SKILLS





Registration as a North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE).





Knowledge of the principles and practices of transportation engineering, bicycle/pedestrian transportation, complete streets, transportation planning, urban design, traffic safety, and construction.





Knowledge of land development regulations or similar previous work experience.





Strong written and verbal communication skills; and





Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ArcGIS.
