One Team! One TARTA! The role of Diesel Mechanic - ASE Certified will focus on supporting maintenance operations within a new TARTA. In 2020, TARTA embarked on a transformational journey with the development of TARTA Next, a ten-year plan to increase community value through public transit services that make a positive impact. This transformation is powered by a dedicated team of professionals in each department from the leadership team to every front-line (and behind-the-scenes) team member.

About the Role: At TARTA this role is called Mechanic C. Mechanic C is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and technical systems on our fleet. In addition to performing advanced diagnostics and repairs, you will provide guidance to Utility Mechanics and support Mechanics A and B as needed. Your expertise will help ensure our buses run smoothly, safely, and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, including engine and transmission problems
• Use computer-based diagnostic tools to isolate equipment issues
• Repair and replace components such as steering systems, suspensions, and air rides
• Read and interpret wiring and circuit board schematics
• Perform troubleshooting and repair of complex bus systems
• Mentor and assist Utility Mechanics in handling more advanced repairs
• Maintain a clean and safe workspace
• Perform all duties of a Utility Mechanic, Night Service employee, and Cleaner as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Essential Skills & Abilities:

• Intermediate understanding of electrical, hydraulic, brake, air, and mechanical systems
• Proficient in reading schematics and using diagnostic equipment
• Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting skills
• Computer proficiency to operate diagnostic tools
• Strong communication and decision-making skills
• Physical ability to perform tasks such as crawling, standing for extended periods, and lifting objects over 25 pounds

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification T6 or T8 within 89 days of employment
• Passing score on the TARTA Mechanic C Qualification Test

Working Conditions:

• Shifts may vary and can include weekends
• Requires frequent physical effort, including standing, crawling, and reaching overhead
