Director, Communications, Global Supply Chain Operations

To achieve this vision, it’s critical to engage associates and other stakeholders both within and outside of Avantor in this long-term journey. The Director, Communications, Global Supply Chain Operations, will provide overall communications leadership for GSCO, developing and implementing strategic communications plans that advance and support GSCO’s priorities as well as improve the overall experience for Avantor’s customers. The role reports directly to the Vice President, Business Communications, with dotted-line accountability to the EVP, Global Supply Chain Operations, and this leader will sit on the GSCO senior leadership team.The individual will also work closely/collaborate with the Vice President, Associate Experience and Change Management Communications, as well as peer communicators with global responsibility for external communications, business units and groups, as well as regional communicators in the Americas, Europe and AMEA.Key Responsibilities:Develop and execute strategic communications for GSCO, targeting external audiences (including customers, suppliers, and the media) and internal audiences (computer users and non-computer users).Coordinate with regional GSCO leaders and Global Communications & Brand colleagues to develop and implement customer-centric approaches for communication to ensure consistency, convenience, and effectiveness. Serve as a member of the GSCO senior leadership team to provide communications leadership, counsel, and guidance on issues, opportunities, change initiatives, and crises, in coordination with Global Communications & Brand.Provide executive communications support for the EVP, Global Supply Chain Operations. Advise and support other senior executives on strategic messaging and delivery; coach and train as needed.Drive associate engagement, using best practices for content, communications channels, and measurement.Provide leadership and counsel for change communications in support of GSCO transformation programs – partner with and leverage Avantor’s Change Management Communications team to drive a standard and coordinated approach across the company.Communicate and support Avantor’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and diversity, inclusion and equity.Collaborate with local, regional, and global operations leadership and HR representatives to drive site-specific communication that effectively reaches both wired and front-line associates.Advise on traditional and social media inquiries related to activities at sitesActively monitor and evaluate industry dynamics, communicating with commercial leadership and working with global colleagues to respondMeasure outcomes to demonstrate effectiveness of communications to the wider business; track and analyze metrics to determine ROI and prioritize resourcesSupport Avantor external communications and positioning as requiredOther duties as assigned with or without accommodationsTravel internationally and domestically 10-15%QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree a plusMinimum of 12+ years of communications or related agency experience with a successful track record in planning and executing communications programmingStrong business acumen and deep experience across a variety of communications disciplines (including internal, external, customer, media, investor, change and crisis).Position requires a strategic communications perspective, an understanding of the relevant corporate functions and a focus on performance and continuous improvement.Global experience is requiredExperience working with/in life science, biopharma or advanced technology businesses/products or a large public company preferredExperience working in and fluency with operations and supply chain preferredProven experience navigating and accomplishing work in a matrixed organizationStrong ability to build productive relationships through interactions with diverse internal and external business partnersExperience and understanding of best practices, standards and regulations impacting operations and related shop floor employees, including lean practices, safety, and qualityKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)A passion for and a track record of building programs, approaches, and teams to achieve objectivesProactive, highly energetic personality, ability to think creativelyStrong writing & editing skillsExcellent presentation and speaking skillsStrong judgment and discretionStrong leadership ability and presence while working in a team matrix organizationAbility to interact with and influence senior leadership on critical business issuesCommitted to building relationships and capable of influencing without authorityExperience collaborating with cross-functional project teams and multiple corporate departments and outside consultantsAbility to work in a fast-paced/high-growth environment, where initiative, accountability, and prioritization are criticalExceptional organizational/project management skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, operate within budgets, and consistently meet deadlinesExperience building and driving successful internal communications programsExperience with change management methodologies and driving change communicationsDigitally driven, with understanding of digital platforms and demonstrated ability in developing and driving creative, engaging contentEnthusiasm for implementing new communications technologiesFlexible with problem solving and analytical skillsCommitted to continuous improvement and leveraging best practicesENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions)Typically works in an office with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level.Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems.A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis.Minimal physical effort is required.
