Director of Human Resources
The Director of Human Resources serves as an integral part of the leadership team at the Copacabana Palace, A Belmond Hotel, reporting to the Divisional Director of Human Resources the Americas and dotted line to the Area Managing Director for Brazil. This role serves as a key member of the HR leadership team, responsible for driving the development and execution of HR initiatives that align with the company’s strategic objectives. The HR Director will adapt and implement global HR strategies to meet local needs, ensuring the company's commitment to "Act with Heart, Make the Moment, and Be Remarkable" is embodied throughout the employee experience. This position oversees all aspects of human resources management, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, training and development, compensation and benefits, and compliance with legal requirements. The goal is to achieve HR operational excellence, fostering a supportive and high-performing workplace culture. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Talent Development Acts as strategic advisor to the leadership team on all people-related matters. Oversee performance management and systems to drive high performance, including active and effective utilisation by teams of the RISE performance management app. Conduct regular reviews of the organisation and of succession plans to ensure a solid pipeline of talent for key roles, including the annual Organisational Management Review (OMR). Assess development needs in order to apply and monitor development activations and programs. Ensure that employees have access to professional development opportunities. Implement and support global learning and development initiatives. Employee Engagement Ensure that the Employer Value Proposition (EVP) is activated throughout the entire employee lifecycle by enhancing existing programs and developing new initiatives, incorporating global HR initiatives and objectives at a local level. Manage and initiate activities to improve employee engagement, prioritising identified key actions from the Employee opinion survey and employee focus groups, meetings, etc. Develop, implement and manage work-life balance initiatives Employee Relations Advise and manage employee relations processes including disciplinaries, grievances, re-structures, redundancy, performance, and employment terminations, in conjunction with the Legal team. Coach managers to foster positive working relationships and to manage conflict. Oversee the development, implementation, and communication of HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with employment laws and global policies. Ensure an up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation to identify organisational risk and continual compliance. Payroll, Compensation and Benefits Responsible for the implementation of Compensation and Benefits programs according to the global policies and guidelines. Manage and conduct the annual bonus and pay review (Individual Compensation Review “ICR”) in accordance with global guidelines. Advise and guide managers on performance and capability, including management of sickness/absence. Advise and manage statutory and contractual leave including holiday, sickness, maternity, paternity, parental, adoption etc. Work closely with the Financial Controller and Finance team, to ensure accurate and up-to-date payroll forecasting and planning. Review and approve payroll for the Global office. Provide management and coaching to the Payroll team ensuring quality and accuracy. Talent Planning and Acquisition Work closely with the departmental managers and recruitment team to understand workforce needs and hiring plans ensuring clarity on skills and competencies required. Lead and coach in the sourcing, selecting and hiring of key Management or Director level positions and provide sourcing support for other roles. Ensure onboarding and new hire training is completed for all new employees. Financial In conjunction with the Divisional Director of HR, GM and Finance team, be responsible in the preparation and management of the HR and Payroll budget, monitoring costs and expenditures. Responsible for guiding Managers to prepare annual Payroll budgets. People Management Manage, coach, motivate and develop direct reports to ensure they achieve their potential, and that performance contributes to the achievement of business objectives. Personally, and through leadership of the team, ensure that annual performance reviews are carried out for each member of the team and that development plans are in place to stretch and develop key talent. Delegate and assign responsibilities within the team to meet objectives. Other Ensure an up-to-date knowledge of industry developments, and monitor current trends, practices and systems in order to make recommendations for improvements. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Administration, Hospitality, Tourism, or Human Resources. Postgraduate degree in Human Resources Management preferred. Minimum of 8 years of experience in the role, experience in the luxury hospitality or service industry is preferred. Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment legislation, and HRIS systems. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships at all levels of the organization. Strong strategic thinking skills to align HR initiatives with organizational goals and drive long-term workforce planning. Ability to lead and manage organizational change effectively, ensuring smooth transitions. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills Proficiency in labor legislation, quality management systems, third-party administration, budgeting and labor relations.
