Director of Operations

DB Search is proud to have been retained by a leading manufacturer of building/construction products to support them in their search for an Operations Director based in Luton.

Reporting to the Managing Director you will be tasked with leading the internal operational structure from raw materials in to finished goods out. A key focus is to lead all members of the operational team on a cultural change which will see the business move from a "we've always done it that way" to a best practice and CI way of working. Part of this will also be the training and upskilling of the team using visual management and KPI's.

For this role to be a success we are seeking a candidate who is able to be strategic and analytical whilst also wanting to be visible and a leader.

Key Tasks:

  • Promotes and enforces Safety (capital S) in the workplace
  • Lead operational Team in line with company values
  • To be the Team coach to drive operational excellence
  • Improve the ‘bench strength’ of all supervisory and production management teams
  • Lead and implement a culture of continuous improvement through engagement in the entire colleague community
  • Be a key component of the Senior Leadership Team in setting objectives which support customer retention and growth
  • Lead teams to set and achieve/exceed objectives in line with deadlines
  • Oversees all manufacturing functions, from raw materials through to despatch, and moves maintenance programme from the current reactive format to a proactive preventative maintenance cycle
  • Prepare budgets, reports, and schedules for presentation to the Senior Leaders as required
  • Ensure customer requirements are met in a timely manner
  • Works closely with other departments to promote efficient production optimisation
  • Identifies improvement areas, planning and implementing systems to boost company effectiveness
  • Manages internal and external service suppliers
  • Execute plans designed to meet company goals, and coaching to improve performance

Key Requirements for the Role:

  • A leader and not a manager
  • Proven experience in a similar role
  • Track record as a ‘change agent’
  • Strong interpersonal skills and must be able to relate at all levels.
  • A qualification in Continuous Improvement (CI)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Demonstrable organisational and planning skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of safety, quality and cost objectives
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, action planning and prioritisation skills
  • Customer-focused and not afraid to be present in the commercial world for client support
