Director of Retail Operations **Direct Hire Position**Not a Contract**Job DescriptionThe Director of Retail Operations reports to the CFO and is responsible for directing all commercial operations. Through subordinate managers they will guide the Gift Shop, Events, Café, and Rental Sales Gallery. These departments employ around 22 staff and generate $4 million in revenue. This role provides leadership, strategic oversight, and business management to maintain growth and profitability. Responsible for developing and implementing earned income strategies in line with the our client’s strategic objectives and mission.Duties & ResponsibilitiesManages day-to-day commercial operationsHires, trains, coordinates, motivates, evaluates and terminates managers overseeing the following departments:CafeEvents Gift ShopRental Sales GalleryResponsible for the development and performance of the departments and their staff listed above. Meets annual sales and profit targets with agreed budget levelsCoordinates, with other directors, the activities of all public-facing staff so as to create a strong customer service focus in all visitor contact personnel Ensures retail spaces are presented and merchandised to a high standard at all times to maximize sales. Understands programs and activities so as to ensure sales opportunities are coordinated with exhibitions, other events and customer seasonalityDesigns and administers event space rental policy. Ensures the rental business is marketed effectively and operated efficiently so that net returns are maximizedNegotiates food service vendor agreements, including event catering contractsResponsible for selection of Retail and Food Service point-of-sales systems. Records and reports store sales, food and beverage sales, facility rental activity Interprets and complies with local, regional and federal ordinances and regulations pertaining to Our client’s operationsParticipates in annual budgeting process; forecasts operating revenue and expensesReviews individual departmental budgets with managers monthly and ensures corrective action is taken if targets are not being metNegotiates community partnerships and client contracts in support of the Our client’s’s mission when applicableServes as liaison to Operations Committee, and occasionally presents to other Board committeesAssists in all facets of operations when necessaryMaintains an awareness of all exhibitions, promotions and advertisements Collaborates with Marketing & Communications department to further commercial operationPerforms other related duties as assignedSupervisory ResponsibilitiesSupervises three staff: Director of Events Sales & Operations, Gift Shop, and Rental Sales Gallery ManagerDecisions are made within prescribed operating guidelinesTotal budgetary preparation/compliance accountabilityTotally accountable for control of Capital assets/equipment Totally accountable for long range and strategic planningRecruitment, mentoring, performance management, training & coaching.
