Drafter/CAD Operator III
Job Description:
Using Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) software, prepares or edits complex drawing packages including multiple views, connection or wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and elevations.
Drawings include complex design features that require considerable drafting skill to visualize and portray.
Assignments may require the use of mathematical formulas to compute such as weights, load capacities, dimensions, quantities of materials, etc.
Working from sketches and verbal information supplied by an engineer or designer, determines the most appropriate views, details or drawings and supplementary information needed to complete assignments.
Selects required information from precedents, manufacturers' catalogs, and technical guides.
Independently resolves most problems encountered. Supervisor or designer may suggest methods of approach or provide advice on unusually difficult problems.
Prepares a variety of drawings and sketches using multiple drafting techniques as required.
Prepares a variety of drawings using a mastery of terminal operator's layout drafting level of the command and data entry methods appropriate to the CAD system in use.
Performs assists tasks exercising judgment in the selection and use of appropriate drafting practices, procedures, and specifications.
All work is subject to specific checking and approval. Answers questions of and gives assistance to lower classified personnel.
Determines scales, views, and sections for orthographic and axonometric drawings relating to design and documentation requirements using appropriate processes.
Prepares drawings of electrical schematics and connection diagrams from rough sketches or design information using knowledge of the physical, functional, and fabrication requirements of the items and assemblies.
Develops layouts and drawings of complex items and assemblies within established weight and dimensional limits.
Prepares drafting time/cost requirement estimates. Provides time/cost management of projects as required.
Performs other related duties as required.
Required Skills, Experiences, Education and Competencies:
High School diploma or 2 years appropriate technical training and 5 years of related experience.
Experience with SolidWorks, Draft site and PDM
Familiarity and experience with DoD and/or other federal agency drawing standards .
The hourly range for roles of this nature are $30.00 to $50.00/hr. Rates are heavily dependent on skills, experience, location, and industry.
