EL 1 - Assistant Director Zone Operations and Coordination

$115,899 - $130,733 + up to 15.4% superannuation Bandiana – VIC, Canberra – ACT, Hobart – TAS, Melbourne CBD - VIC The Role The opportunity is to fill one Assistant Director – Zone Operations and Coordination role on a full-time, ongoing basis in the Melbourne CBD. A merit pool will be established and may be used to fill vacancies across the Zone in the advertised locations as they arise over the next 18 months.  The Zone Operations & Coordination team is responsible for the delivery of selected business services within Service Delivery Division – South East Zone. It provides overall support to a number of key Defence sites across Riverina, Murray Valley, Victoria and Tasmania and a range of functions including: Zone-level tasking and coordination - Coordination of communications, responding to tasking and information requests, including critical, time sensitive response requests in support of the Zone and its stakeholders. Communicate and coordinate Zone-wide operational plans and strategic initiatives.  Executive support - Provision of executive support to the Assistant Secretary including supporting executive communication and any Assistant Secretary led initiatives across the Zone. Governance support - Provision of financial administration and management of the Zone budget in consultation with Defence Finance Group and the Zone Executive team. Zone-level workforce management - Provision of support for recruitment, coordinating higher duties, staff movements between teams, and medium to long term zone-wide workforce planning and relevant reporting.  Learning and Development - Plan and coordinate externally delivered training and development courses aligned with capability requirements. Our Ideal Candidate The Duties of an EL1 Assistant Director Zone Operations and Coordination in Defence include the following (note: not all duties are required to be performed during a 12-month performance cycle): Accountable for managing allocated resources, setting work area priorities, managing workflows, developing strategies and evaluating business outcomes. Accountable for managing and leading a team, including providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility and guiding and developing people. Accountable for accurate completion of work within timeframes and quality requirements, share own expertise with others and guide and mentor less experienced employees. Accountable to perform complex to very complex procedural, operational, administrative and business management activities that support the delivery of outcomes across Defence. Engage and negotiate with stakeholders on complex to very complex issues to influence and achieve business outcomes. Work collaboratively, build and sustain effective relationships, motivate and provide constructive feedback to the team and work area. Assess and evaluate administrative, business, corporate and policy initiatives, identify issues and implement appropriate procedures and work practices. Demonstrated experience in team management in a service delivery environment Demonstrated ability to think critically, identify issues and deliver continuous improvement activities. Highly developed communication, organisation and negotiation skills. Exceptional stakeholder engagement and liaison skills. Experience in working collaboratively across large and dispersed teams Demonstrated experience in influencing the delivery of organisational change in a positive manner.
