Job Summary:

The Industrial Automation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting automated systems and machinery used in manufacturing and production facilities. This role involves working with electrical, mechanical, and control systems to ensure efficient operation, and reducing downtime by quickly addressing equipment issues. The technician will collaborate with engineers and production teams to optimize system performance and suggest improvements for automation processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain automated systems including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, actuators, and other control equipment.
  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and mechanical components in automation systems.
  • Program and modify PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and other control systems to meet production requirements.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Collaborate with engineers to design and implement improvements in automated systems for greater efficiency and reliability.
  • Perform regular maintenance and calibration of control systems to ensure proper operation.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and quickly restore functionality to minimize production downtime.
  • Assist in the development and updating of technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, operating procedures, and equipment manuals.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures, following company and industry regulations.
  • Train operators and other staff on the proper use and maintenance of automated systems.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent in Automation Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience working with industrial automation systems.
  • Proficiency in programming PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) and HMIs.
  • Knowledge of industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.) and communication protocols.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and repair complex automation issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and manuals.
  • Familiarity with electrical and mechanical components used in industrial automation.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Skills:

  • Experience with robotics or CNC machine automation.
  • Familiarity with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.
  • Knowledge of safety standards such as OSHA and NFPA.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing or production environment with exposure to various mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Must be able to lift and move heavy equipment as needed.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet production deadlines or address emergencies.
