Electrical Construction - Safety Coordinators and Representatives

We are hiring for Safety Coordinators and Safety Representatives in our Houston Division.

The Safety Coordinator (SC) is the primary safety supervisor normally attached to a specific electrical construction project.

The Safety Representative (SR) supports the safety coordinator in executing the Walker Engineering Program at the jobsite level. Commercial electricals with minimum 5 years of experience interested in transitioning to safety are encouraged to apply to representative.

SAFETY COORDINATOR

Along with the project management team, the SC is responsible for the planning, direction, training, communication, and execution of safety efforts at the project for Walker Engineering, and for the oversight of subcontractors as contractually required. The SC will occasionally attend to other safety issues as necessary within the region or state.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate with supervision on project safety implementation at all levels of the jobsite
  • Complete regular safety assessments, and recommend improvement strategies
  • Communicate frequently and effectively with the Regional Safety Manager on all issues affecting safety at the project
  • Provide direction and mentorship to hourly personnel
  • Participate in project required safety committees
  • Coordinate appropriate safety staffing for high profile shutdowns, commissioning, etc.
  • Thoroughly investigate incidents and provide assistance to supervision to complete associated reports and forms
  • Provide site specific training, audits, orientations, and coaching
  • Identify safety situations that require immediate action and remove employees when needed
  • Interact with general contractors, owners, other trades, and clients in an appropriate manner
  • Recommend additional company policies and programs that improve Walker safety efforts
  • Train personnel and assist with the completion of JHAs, ORMs, PTPs, etc…
  • Be able to use testing equipment (air samplers, light meters, etc.), and document results
  • Assist with, or provide regular safety meetings

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of general construction and electrical safety rules and regulations
  • Valid driver’s license satisfactory for company minimum requirements
  • Above average communications skills, ability to speak to groups
  • Strong passion for safety and health
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Computer skills necessary to create and complete safety reports

Certifications: OSHA 30, (OSHA 500 )

Education: High School or GED Equivalent

Experience: 5+ years safety in electrical construction

SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE

The Safety Representative is responsible for assisting the Safety Coordinator and supervisory personnel in executing the Walker Engineering Safety Program at the jobsite level. SR’s are expected to spend the majority of their working time in the field observing and helping production employee’s work safely.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • · Skill and understanding of the electrical industry
  • · Valid driver’s license satisfactory for company minimum requirements
  • · Ability to teach, train, mentor
  • · Computer literacy and ability to use Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • · Communication skills (written and verbal) necessary to communicate effectively
  • · Strong commitment to safety
  • · Strong teamwork and integrity
  • · Ability to work overtime as needed
  • · Physical stamina to walk and access elevations in a construction environment
  • · Willingness to work flexible schedules
  • · Basic understanding of construction safety (OSHA 10)
  • · Prioritization skills
  • · Personal commitment to observing safety mentality

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • · Audit, correct, and teach proper safety protocols
  • · Support the Safety Coordinator in all aspects of the safety program
  • · Participate, when needed, in project safety team and safety committee activities
  • · Assist, arrange, or provide formal training, including documentation and preparation
  • · Conduct and document material and equipment inspections
  • · Assist with incident investigations
  • · Conduct or arrange safety meetings
  • · Assist in the preparation of Job Hazard Analyses
  • · Provide input with regard to further safety needs
  • · Administer the Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) program
  • · Notify supervision when additional safety items become necessary
  • · Communicate effectively with the Safety Coordinator and other safety personnel
  • · Have no other jobsite requirements while designated in the SR position

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Certifications: OSHA 10 or greater
  • Education: High School or GED equivalent
  • Experience: 5 years construction and/or safety background
