The Electrical Engineer Advisor will result in multiple assignments throughout the plant and will primarily provide technical support within the multiple departments. This position will work closely with maintenance personal to develop and implement best practices to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.

The Electrical Engineer Advisor will provide support for various equipment controls and repair projects including but not limited to: providing support for electro-mechanical troubleshooting, support for trials and investigations of innovative technologies. This position will support the plant’s Key Performance Indicators (KPI) management system as required.

Job Accountabilities

  • Comply with all Company and department safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Drive best practices in safety solutions and ensure the safety of all operations, maintenance, and staff personnel
  • Review and provide solutions for chronic downtime issues
  • Update and create electrical schematics
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical issues
  • Train maintenance personnel
  • Maintain backups software and drawings
  • Coordinate communications and efforts with internal and external resources to troubleshoot equipment and to execute repairs, PM’s, and upgrades to equipment and tooling.
  • Participate in planning meetings with Maintenance.
  • Development and execution of CI projects.
  • Perform RCFEs on equipment failures
  • Knowledge of instrumentation installation, specification sheets, calibration, calculations and configuration
  • Champion projects, and programs that support the Mill vision.
  • Support turnaround and unit shutdown planning and execution through participation in scope development, providing justification for work items, and providing technical support outage timeframe
  • Support capital project development, define project scopes, complete project estimates, and support design and construction
  • Review projects for technical accuracy and clarity and deliver presentations as required to support project updates, justification, and explanation
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering or related technical field or equivalent specific process control specialist experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proven electrical troubleshooting skills to support multiple PLC and AC/DC drive platforms in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated technical experience with process control project execution
  • High level of understanding of and experience with process control systems including DCS, safety instrumented systems, and process control networks.
  • Ability to effectively use structured approaches in problem solving and troubleshooting.
  • Capability of producing results in both a team and individual environment.
  • Exhibits a working knowledge of policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Advanced Computer skills: ability to access, navigate, learn, and use application software such as Microsoft Office, Excel, data acquisition/historian programs, alarm management, and quality control lab systems.
  • Solid verbal and written communication and technical writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to interact effectively and positively with all levels of Company personnel
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to be periodically on-call and able to provide guidance to maintenance personnel
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to anticipate and adapt to dynamic situations
  • Must pass drug test and background check
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Desired Characteristics

  • Four years or more years of experience in engineering or process control systems working in a paper, chemical, refining or heavy manufacturing environment
  • Advanced understanding of an integrated paper mill processes is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience in development and implementation of process control strategy, automation philosophy, or advance process control applications
