Job Summary: The Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining electrical systems and components for the company’s energy production, transmission, and distribution operations. This role involves working on a variety of projects, including power , substations, and grid modernization. The Electrical Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that electrical systems are safe, reliable, and efficient, meeting the company’s goals and regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Electrical System Design and Development:
    • Design and develop electrical systems for power , transmission, and distribution projects.
    • Create detailed electrical schematics, drawings, and specifications using design software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP).
    • Perform electrical load calculations, short circuit analysis, and protective device coordination studies.
  1. Project Engineering and Management:
    • Lead and manage electrical engineering aspects of projects from concept through completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
    • Collaborate with project managers, other engineers, and contractors to ensure the successful integration of electrical systems into overall project designs.
    • Prepare technical reports, project documentation, and progress updates for stakeholders and management.
  2. Power and Distribution:
    • Design and optimize electrical systems for power plants, substations, and transmission lines.
    • Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for new electrical infrastructure projects.
    • Ensure the reliability and efficiency of power and distribution systems by implementing best practices and advanced technologies.
  1. Testing, Commissioning, and Maintenance:
    • Develop testing and commissioning procedures for new electrical systems and equipment.
    • Oversee the commissioning of electrical systems to ensure they meet design specifications and performance standards.
    • Perform regular maintenance and inspections of electrical systems to identify and resolve potential issues before they lead to failures.
  1. Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure all electrical designs and installations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including the Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA, and IEEE standards.
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety protocols to minimize hazards associated with electrical systems.
    • Collaborate with the Safety and Compliance teams to ensure all projects meet the highest safety and environmental standards.
  1. Grid Modernization and Smart Grid Technologies:
    • Participate in grid modernization initiatives, including the integration of renewable energy sources and smart grid technologies.
    • Design and implement solutions for advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), demand response, and distributed energy resources (DER).
    • Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in electrical engineering and grid modernization.
  1. Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
    • Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to electrical systems, equipment, and components.
    • Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams to ensure the smooth operation of electrical systems.
    • Implement corrective actions and process improvements to enhance system reliability and performance.
  1. Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reductions, and efficiency gains in electrical engineering projects.
    • Participate in research and development initiatives to explore new technologies and methodologies that can improve energy delivery and reliability.
    • Lead or contribute to initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact of electrical systems and operations.
  1. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, civil engineers, operations, and maintenance teams, to ensure successful project execution.
    • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
    • Provide training and technical guidance to junior engineers and other team members.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. A Master’s degree or Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably within the energy or utility industry.
    • Proven experience in designing and managing electrical systems for power , transmission, and distribution projects.
    • Experience with grid modernization, renewable energy integration, and smart grid technologies is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge:
    • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, and standards, including NEC, IEEE, and other relevant codes and regulations.
    • Familiarity with power system analysis tools, such as ETAP, PSS/E, or similar software.
    • Understanding of renewable energy technologies, including solar, wind, and energy storage systems.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex electrical issues.
    • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
    • Proficiency in electrical design software, such as AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar tools.
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Certifications:
    • Professional Engineer (PE) license is .
    • Additional certifications related to electrical engineering, project management, or renewable energy are a plus.
  • Technical Requirements:
    • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and presentations.
    • Familiarity with SCADA systems, PLC programming, and other control systems is advantageous.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to conduct site visits and inspections, which may involve working in various weather conditions, climbing ladders, and navigating industrial environments.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.


Working Conditions:

  • The position may require occasional travel to project sites and facilities.
  • Must be available for on-call support during system maintenance or emergency situations.

Salary and Benefits: GP Energy offers a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package, and opportunities for professional growth and development. The salary for this position is $80,000 to $100,000.
