ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

PRIMARY FUNCTION
This focus of this specific role is to improve upon and support the implementation of Active Injury Mitigation (AIM) in our current products. The experiences afforded in this role may provide an ideal platform for the successful candidate's subsequent contributions in other roles directly involved in the next of SawStop products.
The Electrical Engineer will interface regularly with other in order to support an unparalleled customer journey. The Electrical Engineer will be able to work independently, and while there will be other mentorship opportunities within the electrical engineering team, will officially report to the Manager of Electrical Engineering.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Current Product Engineering: Production Support
- Lead quality, performance, and cost improvement projects
- Support Operations team to ensure up-time and low defect rate for brake cartridge manufacturing
- Maintain local and remote test fixtures
- Update scripts in test fixtures in the field as necessary
- Design new fixtures as well as make improvements to existing test fixtures with support from other disciplines
- Find and qualify replacements for obsolete components.
- Coordinate necessary fixture updates related to new firmware releases and/or hardware updates with engineering and operations
- Monitor test fixture performance, look for statistical trends. Escalate issues as appropriate to quality, operations, or technical leadership.
- Customer Journey
- Review product returns and associated feedback to determine root cause of concerns
- Identify and execute on design improvements to address field concerns as appropriate
- Documentation
- Document test fixture designs and associated code in revision-controlled repositories
- Document existing processes and modify documentation as processes change.
- Miscellaneous
- Manage multiple simultaneous tasks in parallel
- Coordinates with team to determine priorities of tasks on a regular basis
- Ability to work both independently and as a part of a larger functional team
- Some international travel is possible, although infrequent and unlikely in this role
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
- I+ year professional experience or (discipline-relevant) (s)
- Must be authorized to work in the United States at time of hiring
- Must be ready to work onsite as required by the work at hand
- Experience troubleshooting analog and mixed signal circuits
- Experience with schematic capture and layout tools
- Ability to assemble and repair printed circuit boards
- Lab equipment experience (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer, LCR meter, etc.)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and accountability to drive issues to closure
- Ability to communicate and collaborate across functional groups and diverse audiences, while working in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Hands on problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven ability to understand circuits designed with discrete transistors
- Experience with version control systems (Git and SVN in particular)
- Ability to collect relevant data/measurements, summarize, and report test results to team
- Experience with circuit simulation (LTSpice in particular)
- Experience with electric motors
- Test fixture design experience
- Experience with qualifying replacement components
- Ability to understand and write simple scripts in Python
- Ability to write simple applications for Arduino-style processors
- Experience using table saws and other woodworking tools
- Hands on practical skills - soldering to build and test prototype PCBAs and ability to assemble connectors to cables using soldered and crimped connections
