Electrical/Planning Engineer (Remote)
This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp [FEU]. The preferred candidate(s) will have experience in Distribution Energy Resource (DER) interconnection review and/or distribution planning & protection job functions to assist with driving FirstEnergy’s DER Strategy while providing leadership and support with our rapidly evolving electrical system. Responsibilities: Maintaining a safe workplace for coworkers and the community based upon knowledge of potential hazards and industry regulations and requirements. Providing a high level of service, continuous support, and proactive involvement surrounding technical subject matter to leadership and peers, using standard planning and protection tools, such as Microsoft Office tools, CYMEDIST, CYMETCC, LFDMS, SAP, GISView, Pl Process Book, Pl Datalink, reviewing and approving circuit modifications. Providing guidance in the use of EDOS systems and processes, such as: The Distribution System Planning Criteria; Distribution Engineering Practices; Field Guides; and Standards. Supporting the annual Engineering task, such as Capital Portfolio development and review process, Summer Readiness, Manual Load Shed, Distribution System Assessment, etc. Conducting technical research analysis and offering an interpretation of the results. Assisting in implementation activities involving complex processes and procedures. Contributing to solutions by taking initiative to develop alternatives and recommendations. Offering ideas and suggestions to improve moderately complex technical processes and/or projects. Providing sound customer service by exceeding internal customer needs. Proactively seeking ways to build challenge and add value within scope of assignments. Consistently anticipating and delivering results on a variety of job-specific subject matters. Offering advice, education, and encouragement to others. Directing others on technical subject matters Supporting the storm response process as either a storm analyst, hazard dispatcher, hazard responder, or in another corporate storm role. Finding ways to enhance your subject matter expert (SME) role though self-study, internal and external training, attending webinars, the creation of Job Aids, etc. Responsibilities at the Level IV includes: An employee hired at the Level IV will be expected to perform all Level III responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent and diverse manner that demonstrates subject matter expert qualities. Independently Recommending and implementing technical solutions to complex issues and assignments. Providing a high level of customer service, continuous support, and proactive involvement to leadership and fellow peers surrounding technical subject matter in the areas of: distribution planning, power quality; distributed energy resources; energy storage; distribution automation; volt-var optimization; arc flash; and distribution protection. Supporting operating company personnel through webcasts, workshops, and training. Independently improving technical programs and process effectiveness Driving significant achievement of goals and objectives. Serving in a leadership role for the development of designated programs, policies, and people. Developing process improvements and efficiencies to improve work products and processes. Independently anticipating and meeting internal/external technical needs and initiatives. Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited school; candidates with Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school may be considered, with previous working experience in the electric utility industry. In lieu of an ABET accredited school degree, a candidate with a valid PE license will be considered. Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience, preferably in the electric utility industry.
