Under the direction of the Plant Maintenance Manager and Electrical Supervisor, the Electrician performs work involving the skills to keep machines, mechanical equipment, or the structure of an establishment in repair. Conducts, maintains, tests and repairs electrical/electronic systems and components. Applies knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to the operation. Has the necessary skills needed in electrical/electronics to support all areas of manufacturing.
Job Purpose and Reporting Structure:
Under the direction of the Plant Maintenance Manager and Electrical Supervisor, the Electrician performs work involving the skills to keep machines, mechanical equipment, or the structure of an establishment in repair. Conducts, maintains, tests and repairs electrical/electronic systems and components. Applies knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to the operation. Has the necessary skills needed in electrical/electronics to support all areas of manufacturing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Troubleshoots and repairs (helps mechanical) electrical/electronic equipment including but not limited to programmable controls, numeral controls, power supplies, drives, gages and test equipment.
- Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles, local and electrical codes, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.
- Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements (US).
- Advises operators, millwrights and appropriate management of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components.
- Informs appropriate management and millwrights of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.
- Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed.
- Assists maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting.
- Assists and trains other maintenance and/or other technical level employees.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, run conduit, pull wire, problem solving skills, and confidence with working on electrical systems and equipment.
- Performs other duties as required.
Protective Clothing Required:
The employee must wear safety shoes, safety glasses and a hard hat when working in manufacturing areas. A full face respirator may be required at times.
Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Experience in the electrical/electronics field is required and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in this area.
- Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- A thorough knowledge of electrical/ electronic components and equipment including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes.
- Willing to work on call and overtime as required.
- Computer experience/operation is
- High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required.
- Ability to work at elevated heights, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work.
- Must be highly safety conscious.
- Working around high voltage electricity.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or its equivalent required. Journeyman Electrician. Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLC industrial controls is a plus. Montana state electrical license required
Skills:
Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to carry out standard computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, percentage calculations and division.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to identifying complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Other Skills:
Requires ability to plan and prioritize, develop work schedules, and basic machine care.
